It's time for some brainstorming, I see the only person with something on mind is Ceba.... In that matter i would like to add something here - Lets make it Knock Out tournament, since we do not have a great amount of active ppls and obviously the people who really loves q2dm1/edge league are few. It does seems the group stages are not an option anymore, so lets make it K.O tournament as mentioned above - best of 1. What do you think guys? Is it better? I find it interesting and the largest benefit is that we can finish it within a month or even sooner!
I have just installed Q2 again after many years absence. Willing to get involved in q2dm1 duel and other matches 2v2's etc. I played Q2 WOD(7.51) mostly back in 1998-2003.
As much as I like that idea PSM, I think that the reason EDL is more popular than Edge league is because a lot of players feel they can't compete on Edge league, so they turn to other maps.
I really like the idea of a 2v2 league, especially since there is no EUROQ2L or NDML anymore. I think it will encourage a lot of players to come back to Quake 2 as well, because those that have been inactive for a while might feel they can't compete at duel, but could do quite well in 2v2. It would be nice to see Pogo come back to play with PURRI, and maybe Thaigo and Gerppa, or Arch and Gerdt.
I'm not sure that would work because some players might not want to choose Edge against certain opponents in terms of strategy. Sometimes it's better to choose a map that you're not as good on as Edge but are still significantly better than your opponent on.
It's a good idea, but I'm not sure it will provide very good results, or be very popular.
I have another idea that needs polishing a bit more. Have Edge as a sub-League in EDL. Maybe some players would choose if they want to play Edge too, and then they would have to play q2dm1 as one of their EDL maps. And results would be added to EDL and Edge. But its a rough idea, we need to think if its possible.
Maybe scrap Edge league next season and try a 2v2 league instead? Only a small amount of players can play the Edge these days so it doesn't attract much attention, but a 2v2 league can use the same maps as the EDL.
