GGs purri, everyone expected you to win this and actually managing to live up to those expectations is really impressive. Can only imagine you being under some pressure, both from the scene, the sponsors and the tourney.
As for doze I must say congratulations too, I didn't expect you to make it this far considering the limited amount of time you've had for preparations (even managing to move somewhere in between there). Looks like taking a beating on the bootcamp with purri did really help a lot. For an inactive player to come back to q2 a couple months or so before the tourney starts and end up getting placed 2nd, 7,000$ is good money for the hours invested q2'ing And also congrats to rigg5, showing that one can have some fun on the way to the 3rd place \o/
As for coverage, I did get better coverage on IRC talking to players than I did from iTG or the quakecon site. It's pretty sad, but at least I got to see the final live.
Looking back on the tourney, it seemed to be as fair as it possibly could. Doze ending up 2nd beat all three players ranked below him on his way up from the losers bracket, so he certainly deserved that spot. And when Purri beat the 2nd ranked player twice, as well as the 3rd ranked once, you can't deny him any glory from his win And taken under consideration everyone actually showing up on time were allowed to join the tourney, I'd say it was as fair as it could be.
Too bad scooby couldn't go though, and of course I wanted some of the better players both from Europe and NA to show up as well. But you can't have the cake and eat it too, and there is only that much money in the tourney, so if all the euros went to win, someone would be really disappointed
I've watched it live too.. nothing special, that tournament was more of a joke but it wasn't supposed to be a major q2 competition, just a fun retro compo... with 10k$ at the key which purri took home easily.
It's always the side effect of the quakecon tournaments, they are meant to be for everyone and "fun" but with such amazing cash prizes, it becomes a bit weird: pr0-players mixed with total noobs.
The only thing that this event made me realize is that the q2 NA scene is a place I'm happy not to belong to.
Scooby: It often happens to the competition when it is placed uncomfortably or the propaganda is not well enough.
Like evermotion.org competition, which I had opportunity to admin. Great prizes (pcs and software worth really huge money, sponsored by alienware) didn't make it major, due to the CGnetwork's advertisements.
seems like purri was having fun because of no respect to the opponent, but thats nothing special here, lvl of the whole tournament gives a lot to wish, not like dissrespect, purri is good also but for im its nonsesne that in such a big tournament for such a fuckin big cash distance between 1st and 2nd player - skill - is so fuckin huge, dont say purri is god etc cose there r many good players, and even that he didnt play outstading game here (still v nice purrifier! liked 2 watch it)...
some time ago i was one of not many ppl who were "defeding" americans and their skill, all ppl were saying that the r noskillz and purri gona make rape there...

about the game - funny duel on lan - like a "wanna play with good player" nothign else... im still astouned how is that possible that doze was in the final....
