The Grande Final2004-01-27 03:12 | Gravgon
NDML 4th season is slowly coming to its end and we arrived to the most awaited event: the Playoffs finals which will oppose Poland (winner-bracket winner) to Sweden (loser-bracket winner).

Here is a small preview of the game and a review of their achievements in this season…

Sweden:

The title owner, they had a very smooth way to the playoff as everyone expected it until they met their best friends/rivals/enemies Finland in the semi-final of the Winner-Bracket, but now tell me: WHO ever thought Sweden would lose to Finland after winning two NDML finals over them? Whatever, the favourite of this league got pushed to the Loser-Bracket where they once more met Finland to finally win and get a place in big final.
Now the hardest task remains: Sweden, which will represent the first big side of the Q2 scene, Scandinavia, will have to win 2 best of 5 maps against the other big east side of the scene: Poland.

Strong points: skills to the max, pretty good connexions, fast teamplay (using voice com), good on all maps, experience (they proved they have nerves).

Weak points: they lack their best player and also most experimented: purri, few other big names are missing too. Not so used to play with “high” pings.

Expected line-ups: frza, NaSSaL, Odium, Bubkez, Sorax
Expected map choice: q2dm1, q2dm3

Poland:

The dark horse, the underdog, the challenger… Poland is the new emerging part of the Q2 scene; they were pretty unknown one year ago and now they are everywhere… Will they be on the first step of the podium? They will have to face the powerhouse of this league, Sweden, although they have an advantage, it’s far to be an easy thing.

Strong points: strong team spirit, good on all maps, one coach to rule them all: Scooby (proved he can gather and motivate his team very well in hard situations), they can play on “higher” pings as well.

Weak points: might lack of experience in high pressure situations, more defensive style of play (we have to see how it will work against Sweden’s very aggressive style), less good and stable connexions.

Expected line-ups: Scooby, Warrior, Assasin, mkuh, Morph-X
Expected map choice: dm2,dm6

Captains quick interview:
I interviewed both captains on IRC about this game, notice the totally different style of answers :)

Stuff.se

<Gravgon> first of all can you tell me what do you think about this season of NDML and results Sweden did in it ?
<[eA]Stuff> I believe this thing with NDML has been working really well. No WO's and there has been no problems with the bookings nor has there been any troubble finding the admins. So in other words, everything has worked out fine. We are in the final so there are no reasons not to be pleased, right now that is =)

<Gravgon> what do you think your chances are against Poland, what are your strong points and weak points to play against them ?
<Gravgon> well do you think poland is "lett" or not ? :>
<[eA]Stuff> I think it will be a really tough game due to the fact that we have to win 2 best-of-5 games. It wont be easy! Poland has a great team! Our strongest point is probably the aim. The weakest point right now might be that Odium has such problems with the Internet, he pings 100 even on Swedish servers and that might destroy some bit for our lot since he is a vital member.

<Gravgon> We could read a bit everywhere "sweden misses purri to win" or "sweden misses wzrd" etc. Indeed, a couple of "star" players didn't play this season, do you think Sweden would have won easily all games with them playing?
<[eA]Stuff> Yeah, I've got alot of questions regarding that, of course. It's a shame not to be able to play with them, but we have got ourselves other really good players, such as Nassal and frza, so it evens out =). I find it hard to believe that we'd win a game easier with the lot that aint with us no more though. As I said; they are really good but we've got really good replacments as well... =)

<Gravgon> Do you want to add something ?
<[eA]Stuff> I just want to thank all the admins that has helped with the cup so far. Oh, and good luck Poland!

<Gravgon> Thanks for your time stuff and GL HF in the final
<[eA]Stuff> thnx!

<sYnth|Scooby> hehehe we already done our aim nr 1, we won fi - this is 4 u MIK! u wanted this from the begining, as u can see we will play that game chilled cose we dont feel any pressure, i respect sweden national team but i think 6 maps 2 lose and 3 2 win make swedens a little bit nervous even that still respect 2 them, our weak point? we dont have it :] we lost it with rest of our humanity after few last ndml'z :] -
<sYnth|Scooby> [ndml 1] lost vs uk cose all polish connections died in the day of game
<sYnth|Scooby> [ndml 2] we lost vs fi after we was traveling half poland2 play from club where everyrthing sucked

<sYnth|Scooby> [ndml 4] sky aint the limit :]

<Gravgon> could you estimate the number of "kurwa" that will be said during the big final if you consider a total of 10 maps can be played ? Give an approximated number
<sYnth|Scooby> hmmmmmmm if i am concetrate i dont speak in game and we try 2 dont write stupid things in imporatnt games cose its just loss of time, but i think there will be 1 kurwa, POL WINS NDML IV - OH KURWA WE MADE IT or version b) POL WINS SILVER NDML IV OH KURWA WE MADE IT FI ISNT 2nd :]

<Gravgon> Which maps and which lineups do you expect Sweden to chose?
<sYnth|Scooby> swedens dm1 nassal bubkez odium frza dm3 nassal frza odium sorax gl hf sweden
<sYnth|Scooby> can i add something 2 the end?
<Gravgon> ok add something

<sYnth|Scooby> welcome others admins also
<sYnth|Scooby> :]
<sYnth|Scooby> cya gravgon and rememba sky aint the limit, ooooooppppppppeeeee

Conclusion:

Poland looks pretty confident in the outcome of this match, maybe too much?
Sweden's captain is more reserved but we all know if there is one team who can manage to win 2 best of 5 against Poland, that's well Sweden.
All in all this BIG match should be very intense and nice to watch. Stay tuned!

Review and explainations2004-01-12 05:29 | Gravgon
Yesterday, Poland won the final of the Winner-Bracket against Finland.

Poland is thus qualified for the Grande Finale.

Finland is now waitting in the final of the Loser-Bracket and will face the winner of the match Sweden vs Belgium.

The winner of that Loser-Bracket finale goes to the Grande Finale against Poland.

In this Grande Finale: Poland has an advantage since they won the Winner-Bracket.
They only have to win one best of 5 (3 winning map)
Their opponent will have to win the first best of 5 and also a second one which will be played after.

I hope you're all enjoying the league, several very nice matches have been played and I hope it will go on like this.
GL to everyone

Two new websites2004-01-10 19:41 | Claymore
Tonight I've finish my work on websites for National RA2 League, league organized by Gerdt and his band ...
Next thing is Scene website, which (i hope) in future will be great source of news and articles from World Quake 2 Scene.
More details about both projects on websites: National RA2 League, SCENE, just remember that both are in test phase.
