Huge q2jump mappack | 2011-03-29 08:43 | *rl* |

Some people were asking me where they can download a full mappack (for jumpmod) and I was like "no idea", and since I have quite A LOT of maps on my hard disk, I thought I can help with this. I just noticed that Neur0 has just updated the download section @ , but that mappack weight only ~200MB. My mappack weight ~320MB and includes 2,635! maps.

The Dredge: GotW #11, BftP #2 | 2011-03-27 11:33 | SEBbull |

A week has passed since the last news about the Welkin's alter-ego- Judge Dredge, or Reverend Dredge, but that doesn't mean he wasn't working. He published two fine pieces of writing, which in case you haven't already, I strongly recommend you to read.
The Game of the Week #11, as usual, covers all the interesting facts from the duel leagues from the past week. After the brief summary of the Quake 2 playground, Welkin goes on to pick two most interesting games and provides us with his insight on both.
In the Blast from the Past #2, Welkin takes the role of mysterious traveler wandering through the Quake 2 wasteland. You can imagine him telling 'Gather close that you might hearken the story of the past. The story of the great battle for the third place in Simple. The battle between...'
If you appreciate Welkin's effort and you run a demos-archive, or you are an active duel player, be sure to check the Wanted section on his blog. Welkin's looking for a number of demos from recent competitions for a mysterious project(!). If you happen to have the missing demos, find a way to . I'm sure your help won't go unnoticed.
On a final note, if you want to be on top of the Dredge updates, you might consider subscribing to the Dredge's RSS feed, .

Random note:
If you are running a league, writing a new mod or just have any other random information, you'd like to share with the community, feel free to contact the (checking their activity beforehand; hint: last login), preferably with already written post. Just so the site doesn't lag behind and is actually the news aggregator for the scene. Or maybe you want to write for the scene website yourself? If so, contact and convience him you are good enough! |

In case you haven't noticed yet, or you just don't follow every single Quake 2 related site (we don't blame you, the scene is scattered all over the Internet), here's a heads up- Welkin updated the Dredge blog with another Game of the Week article.
"Week #10 was probably the busiest week we've had in quite a while, and as you might imagine, that means shitloads of demos for me to go through. A few of them even called for some reruns - because they were just that good!"
What games is Judge Dredge talking about? What ratings has he given them? That, you have to by yourself.
---
On a totally unrelated note, you might have noticed - there's a new poll on the right-hand bar. We would really appreciate if you took a second and cast your vote for what's closest to your opinion. Thank you! |

What makes a game community great is not only the number of players and/or leagues running. It is the people who are passionate enough to invest their spare time into a project dedicated for other players' enjoyment. Luckily, our ever-shrinking community still have a few such people.
To take advantage of the growing community of Facebook, sofiene has decided to create a FB magazine dedicated solely for the the latest news from the q2scene.net world. If you are one of those FB freaks who spend all their free time there, rather than on quakenet, be sure to and hit the LIKE button for your daily scene updates. BTW Facebook, if you haven't already, be sure to join the q2scene group, which has been around for quite some time now, and can be found .
If you are one of those Linux or MacOS users, who love Quake2, but were discouraged by the lack of good client on those platforms, I have some good news. Jay Dolan, seeing the latest AprQ2 out-of-date and the project itself got abandoned by original creator, took over the existing code! He has since made some fixes, implemented the updated R1Q2 Protocol 35 and polished the code, so that Mac and Linux users can have a decent platform- a stable, feature-rich client to play on. If you are interestes, be sure to head to the to grab the files and learn more.
It's always good to see retired players coming back to the game. Be it to actively play, to simply observe, or to create something community has never seen before. Peter Lindström, alias Welkin comes back with his world's only quake2 blog - the Dredge. On the blog, Welkin, under the name of Judge Dredd, I mean, Judge Dredge is going to review and express his opinion on his favourite games, both the contemporary ones (the Game of the Week) and almost ancient now (Blast from the Past). Be sure to read what he has written by now, .
Remember the UniCTF idea, Newash had not so long ago? The mod to combine what's best from both (T)DM and CTF? No? In short words, capturing the flags on doubled dm maps without the ever-hated-in-dm-scene grapple. For more information check the forums, or take a glance on the project's (the section to get an idea about the maps and the ), or visit the #unictf channel on quakenet. Now that you are familiar with the concept, you might want to know that Harven incorporated the UniCTF into his TDM mod. AFAIK, the UniCTF itself is still in the beta phase, so in order to test it out in real game situations, urbasek set up two servers on his Germany-located planetquake platform with the UniCTF mod.
What's more, urbasek with the help of goat and stasiek decided to organize a UniCTF league for all the clans (not only the polish ones!) who are interested in playing the UniCTF beta for fun and in the meantime finding the bugs in a organized-games manner. The rules are yet to be written, but the most crucial information can be found on the end of the newsitem. The website is the part of the same database as plq2, and can be found .

JUMP #7; 'On the Anticheat' | 2011-01-03 13:20 | SEBbull |

The quake2 community (or of any other FPS, really) has always been frag-oriented. But there's more to q2 than just fragging. Imagine yourself, you are on an empty server waiting for others to come. What do you do? You jump around; you experience the uniqueness of the q2 movement.
That very uniqueness inspired some players to create the JumpMod. A mod in which fragging isn't the goal, completing the map is. It may sound easy, but it is not. In order to complete a map, you have to incorporate all the gameplay uniqueness- crate jumps, multiple jumps, water and ladder jumps, to name a few, or you will fail miserably.
You think you've got what it takes? Good, as _SK3L3T0R_ and APKIS are proud to announce the seventh installment of Jump Tournament, possibly the only JumpMod competition. Be sure to head over to the tournament's site () to learn more about the rules and the rare thing in modern q2 history - a cash prize! That's right. After fraggers getting some support from polish community, jumpers stepped up to put out the 300 for the winners of Jump #7. (Q2 is dead, anyone?!)
If you want to know more about the JumpMod in general, go to the mod's official site , connect to the server at 94.136.46.3:27950 or visit jumpers at #q2.jump. In the meantime, you might want to check .
Jump Tournament #7:
Signups deadline: 15th January,
Competition start: 21st January
Admins: _SK3L3T0R_ and APKIS

Jump Tournament #6 podium:

While jumpers are happy about their playground, some of the DM players are concerned about the cheaters in the game. One of them is sofiene, the Tunisian newcomer to the online world of q2. He is worried about cheaters and the anticheat efficiency and has asked me to post up his little column on the topic for everybody to read.
While the column might be a little off here and there, and there might be some exaggerations, I'm sure he means no harm and is sincerely worried about the future of the anticheat module and the game itself.

NDML #9: second take | 2010-10-24 17:19 | SEBbull |

|
The time has come! The day has arrived! Two and a half years after NDML #8 had finished, year and a half after the first attempt of organizing NDML #9, eight months after NDML: Invitational idea, Gravgon has finally come to the long-awaited ninth season of the Nations Deathmatch League!
That is right! Seeing a recent raise of motivation among q2 players, Gravgon has decided to give the NDML #9 one more shot to see if YOU, guys, are up for it! Don't let his efforts be in vain! There are a couple ways to show your appreciation and interest:
:: go to the league's website, leave a comment saying how excited you are,
:: get hold of an oldschool player and tell him/her what's up and to come back,
:: or most importantly, gather your countrymen, pick a team captain and go to #ndml to signup a team!
The league's layout doesn't change much. It will follow its typical course, with a group stage and a single-elimination bracket. The only noticable change is a slight tweak to the mappool. In addition to the standard q2dmx maps, the teams will also compete on the Schizm, aka q2next1, which has been successfully tested out in a last few EUROQ2L and has been proven a decent tdm map.
For more information, go to the , visit the irc channel or contact anyone of the crew.

Tastyspleen's thread:
That means the duel-leagues to tdm-leagues ratio for the season 2011 is for now... 3:1. We are really looking forward to seeing NDML even that out. As we all know, NDML is worth at least 2 points :).

Q2 season 2010/2011 | 2010-09-21 04:51 | SEBbull |

| | |
|
We are well into September now. To all QII players, it only means one thing. A brand new Q2 season!
At the end of last season, the future of q2scene sure looked bleak at best and it could make you wonder if there will be a new season. Fortunately, there are still some guys around who care about q2 community and don't want to let it die. Seeing that no one suitable is willing to run the leagues, wision decided to step in once again, despite him saying he quit adminning. So be sure to send him a thank you via scene messenger or IRC query!
With everyone craving some competition, wision had no choice, but to open signups for both EDL and EUROQ2L as soon as he took over. So if you are willing to play, be sure to sign up quick, as the time is running out with deadlines being respectively 30th and 25th September! Make sure to visit league sites for more information and remember to check them frequently for any announcements, as the rules for both leagues are not final yet!
Also I'm sure you've already noticed, but I've got to mention for those few who didn't. There's a new article available at the top! It's a small prelude to the new season, written by Delita. Be sure to check that out () and expect more from him to come!
A quick roundup:
EDL #9:
Signups deadline: 30th September,
Admins: wision (head), Litrium and Careem
IRC: #edl
EUROQ2L #14:
Signups deadline: 25th September,
Admins: wision (head), biah
IRC: #euroq2l
Let's hope 2x2, NiDML, Edge and finally NDML(!) will follow :)! GL and HF! |

I made the forums temporarily unavailable to users because they were getting massively spammed and it may have caused all the websites to run so slow lately.
They will be back online when I figure out how to stop all that spam (any help with phpBB administration would be much appreciated since I'm a n00b with all that stuff ;)) |
