Watching Damiah's playstyle on this first match is like watching an architect draw a flawless blueprint -- not that exciting for sure, but cold and final.
This first battle shows exactly why 15 or 20min matches SHOULD be default for any quake-based championship match. I counted three "momentum swings" in the match which makes for solid entertainment.
Purri went head-first into the aggressive strategy that got him to the finals -- pushing Damiah too hard comes with consequences. He knows Purri's attack-fu so well, knowing how much to lead, when to fake +forward (e.g., in front of YA boxes in megaroom when he shot rox at the doorway, from a stationary position, but making Purri think he was charging) and most importantly when NOT to attack.
This unpredictable, mixed-bag approach of +walk/vary charges/slower "Slippi-style" rox attacks dismantled Purri's hyperspeed attack plan: always refreshing to see two completely different approaches to dueling in a tense match.
Finally, Dami knows his OWN weaknesses and limitations, rarely playing outside that envelope: Despite being up 7-4 and in control near the end, he WISELY ran from a chaining Purri who's notorious for monster CG/racking up quick frags. Respect, but smart.
+ Dami's pill at 7:27 HURT! ++ Dami's masterful RL-aim seemingly customized just for Purri here: go for splash dmg, because Purri's too fast. + Grabbing RG while not in control ++ slug at YA boxes to practically end the match at around 4:00
+++ Purri's HB still just as NASTY as his other Edge matches. Dirty, dirty hyper! ++ Without his playstyle, finals would be dull. A Dami vs. Dami-clone final? ughh. ________________________________________ 6 pluses>5 pluses Dami wins by a single +
