The upcoming season of EDL will be made with pretty much the same rules as in the previous seasons. However, if there is something that you think is not right and needs to be fixed, please post a comment about it.

I made a poll about divisions, should we have one or two of them?

Admins will be needed, if you think you have what it takes to be an admin, let me know about it. (IRC @ #edl or messenger on the site)

maybe div2 doesnt need playoff, maybe just 4 best from div2 league can get in div1 playoff? i am not person to set ppl in division, but there are ppl who follow scene, and can do that. anyway, i dont believe that they can make too big mistake, and if 4 best go to div1 playoff, that sounds fair enough. and for your comment carem... emo

otpek we've gotta finnish playoff div2 to find out who are best 4 or 2, so playoff div1 will wait till it ends, it's a good idea at all but imo it's technically impossible.

If is this still a classic "European duel league" then 1div should stay.

As some one said. Heh, if you noobs wanna have fun with the "official" duels then I can organise the duel toureny for ya. So far in the EDC we have only weak players signed up except Jakkari and maybe me. Signup status is 30/32 and 4days left. =] . www.aim-con.com .

and i agree with wision about div.

and think about playoffs div1 and div2. what we get this way:
1.each the player knows his place exactly (not 17-4854850)
2.all participants have a long league and playoff matches.
3.weak players can get a practice vs strong ones in offical duels.

i could be a supervisor of that playoff div2.
we allready use this stuff in RDL and everybody are happy imo emo

if you are afraid of loosing with big score, then don't sign up emo that's the difference between us.. i prefer only the real competition between "the best" with only one champion, and you prefer fun league for everyone where 2nd half of the league has no point (imho).. for this occasion we have careem and his EDC.
ye.. and i would also like correct player stats, which is not possible with 2 divs like alexyenov already said.

anyway.. this is just my opinion, so don't stone me for that.

Well IMO there should be 2 divisions. There can be something like that each player says which division they prefer when they sign up.

And 2 divisions because of the fact that "not-so-good" players will surely lose their interest when there is let's say three or four tough players in the same group

wision i dont mind playing with only one div (thought i m such a pinger that i would nt fit even in a 3 divs systememo) but imagine those new players (including me) being in a group with high skill players (pure not fun)

imo 2 divs system is nt such a bad ideea , in the end, we all know that the div2 winner is'nt even 15% as good as div1 wiinner.

"let ppl feel a liitle better playing q2, q2scene its small enough dont make it smaller"

anyway i ll be glad to play in edl either if its 1div or 2div sys.

Although fun to watch ... nobody wants to participate in "largest ptrip score dif ever" and so on.... the divisions succeded imho in eliminatig the uber rapes, plus it's more chalanging for everybody... so divisions!

I would love to stick to the classical layout of the tournament - 1 division and only one true winner, however life isn't that easy, right?

When EQ2L was created, they didn't have any divisions either (and the aim was to reveal the best clan in Europe) and only during the 4th season people came finally to a sense, that there is something wrong at a time, when some newbie clan gets wiped out by pros. Just wasn't fun. Many people didn't like the change back then as well, but down the line got to agree with it - it was a common sense after all.

The thing with present Q2 scene is a bit more complicated. Player's activity is like wild life --- one moment you see them, the other you don't. However, as long as there are players, there are cups. One can't grind only his or her own axe.

What I am saying, is that if admins decided for 1 division while having a major amount of people suitable for and willing to play in the second division, then it would be a problem. But if you didn't, it would be a minor distress for those, who wanted it. My proposal would be stick to the dimm side, e.g. not picking out the division, but let players signup and at the end of the signups make the final call. A side note, would be nice, if those who signed up, notified admins somehow, what division they're suitable for, aside the jokes, of course. This way you could partially avoid both IF issues.

But down the line... it's just my humble opinion, of a gamer who is no longer active. emo

Competition should be within the limits of current EDL season, instead of on the basis of the previous seasons.

yes, u can pick some strong players directly to div1 (dami, purri, blaizz, ...), but not good to picks 30 players and more.

Now it is a little in occasion of "100:-7". Yes, such it will be valid to take place at the offered system. But unless it was more interesting to look to you at that as weak players struggled in the certain parallel world also known as div2? I am assured, that was not present.

So if u want two divs, please reflect.
Give chance to a lot of players - unless it it is wrong? All of us not proffi in quake2, it to us does not bring money.

Invitational tourneys - more good way for "100:-7"-free games, but not civil EDL emo

For example. In RDL we has qualifications competition. It is fair and interesting, Because many people wish to leave in a following stage.. I understand that EDL cannot wait for end of Qualify, so u can introduce two playoff tables, as i say early.
So u will has top16 div1 (for example), who was defined in fair wars - is this not good? At the same time owing to div2 playoff we can see more exact distribution of places to tournament for players who will not get in div1.

p.s. this method (with some expansions) was named as "PartyZan system" in Rus and now used in RDL3 .

Alex, you mean that group stage will be like there is just one division, but then the playoffs would be for 2 divisions? If so, that would mean that the "pros" will face the "naabs" on the group stage anyway and we will have those 100:-7 results anyway (which we were trying to avoid in EDL#5).

it is possible to make two divs but not so unfair as on edl5.

you can add qualification round

OR !

make two playoff tables (after the "free for all" groups round) :
div1 for top 16 (or top8) by groups round result and
div2 for others.
So anyone will has chances to wins high places and the league will not end for those who cannot leave in div1 playoff.
