Welcome to the 8th season of European Duel League! Summer is definitely over and that is a sign of new EDL season coming up. This year's layout will be same as previous season, meaning that we will have elimination stage, which will determine 24 players who will go to the group stage, where they will meet 8 players who were invited directly to the group stage. Signups will be opened until 11th of October. Don't hesitate and !

Maplist for current season of EDL is: q2dm1, q2rdm2, q2rdm7, ztn2dm2, ztn2dm3, q2duel5, ptrip, aeroq2, match1
Compared to last season, we droped q2dm3 and added ztn2dm2, q2rdm7 and match1. We would like to point out the q2rdm7 bug where players can get stuck together on the teleport platform. This bug can be avoided while playing on OpenTDM mod with "vote telemode nofreeze", so we suggest to use this vote while you play this map.

EDIT2:
Considering some arguments about the maps and how we chose the maps, we decided to make a poll and let players decide which three maps out of 9 they want to play. The basic maplist is "q2dm1, q2rdm2, ztn2dm3, q2duel5, ptrip, aeroq2" and you can choose the remaining three maps in the poll.

	As far as I remember, fury was the most popular duel map from the beggining (98? 99?) till ~2002 at lans in Poland (atleast in my town, where we had 2-3 lans a week at that time). But now, I think it's not a good idea to put it into maplist tho. In 1999 people didn't know how to play, and now provi + rg + cg + 2x 100 armor.... vs rocket + mega might be A BIT unfair... What i meant was that even thought the "ztn m1 rdm7" option is leading, if you count the maps votes individually you will find that poll options featuring ztn2 got 34 votes in total (at the time of writing this) while options with dm3 in them got 37. Still ztn is in the top as it happens to be in the poll option that got the most votes.

First of all it's a public vote, perhaps should be players in the league only, and then 2nd should most likely should have been that you pick three maps manually Exmaple: -> 1. dmx 2. dmy 3. dmz. 	btw how will the poll results be calculated? Currently the "ztn2, m1, rdm7" option is leading. However ztn2 is not present at all in positions 2-4 while dm3 is in all of them, thus meaning more people actually voted for dm3 instead of ztn2, just not in the leading options combination. Should probably have had every map as a separate option imo.

	imo map poll should be even after elemination gropus.so u cant vote for a map poll,then if u dont care give w/o i dont like dm3 too much,but still i think its a better map than match1,rdm7 and ztn2dm2 i also think is time to let some new map here like kodduel,even if u add a map poll i dont think kodduel will be in the fav list,cuz its a old game and people are used to play old maps.Playing new map is something scary for them... so if admins dont add this map...

	Voting should be restricted to signed up players imo, random ffa players votes affecting the biggest duel tournament in q2 is a bad, bad thing. As for removing dm3... i can see why you choose to as it was the least picked map, but like several people have already said it's a very unique map that demands something different of the players. I really hope people will come to their senses and not vote rdm7 in instead, because as a replacement for dm3 it's a joke. One of the worst duel maps i've ever seen in any quake game tbh. The person in control will often get so many spawnfrags that a comeback is more or less impossible, not to mention that bugged teleport which in itself should disqualify the map from tournament play. The rest are more or less ok, but i'm still hoping koldduel will be given a chance to shine. It's got great potential and i know for a fact several of the people who voted no to it last season did so without even trying it and later changed their minds. Edited: 2009-10-05 12:02

And about the map picks, believe us we dont pick maps that WE like, cause then dm3 would be in the map list for sure since its one of my favourite maps and wisions for an example. Reason why we dident include koldduel1 from the beginning is simple. It got voted down as early as last season.

I say it again so you perhaps understand what I mean, all I wanted was a majority vote decision, perhaps this vote will give the same results, perhaps different. Whats important is that we get the chance to vote a brand new map like koldduel1. So really, thanks for that now. There is no reason for me to argue when you have been more than fair. But please understand that this is not my whiney/rage way to act for my personal reasons. I'm just fed up that season after season we have something around the corner that could make the league better but not given the chance. I'm sure other people think a vote is a good way to decide some of the maps like this. I've seen some people point to the direction that I'm pissed about dm3 not beeing picked, tbh I almost never even pick that map. I usually pick different maps for every game. Check my edl stats. I however do feel like a map like q2dm3 is very different from the most chaingun rage maps like dm1/ztn2/3/d5/ptrip etc. The only map that plays different. For that reason only it could stay, but if people don't include it in their vote, then it does not deserve to stay. Obviously if you read your own comment first purri, you'll see that we had all the maps you hoped for in the list ("keep q2dm1, q2rdm2, ztn2dm3, q2duel5, ptrip, aeroq2," ) and 3 out of the 6 maps you wanted to be "voteable": ("fury, dm3, kolduel1, rdm7, ztn2dm3, match1" ). So if you are raging over the map list, what else could it be than you wanting your own preferred maps included (dm3?, koldduel?). Anyway you have a vote going on now as you wanted, happy, or want to rage over that too? My one and pretty much only favorite map is ptrip, other maps just can't compete with it. 	so basically purri you just want the maps that you like, just like everyone else does. Unfortunately it's not possible for everyone to have their own maps chosen so there has to be some compromises. Dm3 has always been at the bottom of the "most played maps" list. Keeping it in the league does not sound so fair in that sense, does it? Match1 which we picked, was for example in EDL season 6 the 4th most popular map, so we thought it might deserve a chance to be in the league once again. Also ztn2 and rdm7 were more popular maps than dm3 for example (barely, but still). Koldduel can be picked over some of the current maps if public so demands, however it lost a vote if it should be included in the map list just last year, and thus we kept it out from our current list. The map list can't be expanded any bigger than it is, or this league will be just ridiculous. Anyway the league is for the public and if the public so wants, maybe the map list can be still adjusted. Having a vote between the participants is not gonna work because 80% of the participants are not gonna even notice that there's a vote going on in the comments section and thus will not vote..

	you're right purri players should choose the other three maps. but it should be taken into consideration that if we have a vote pool anyone can choose ...and i think that that is a mistake. the "maps" should be chosen after the sign up's are over by the players who will play in EDL#8.... or... i dont know ..by the top players maybe in my opinion , players that will play in the league should chose

	Very dissapointed with the map list currently Current map list: q2dm1, q2rdm2, q2rdm7, ztn2dm2, ztn2dm3, q2duel5, ptrip, aeroq2, match1 keep q2dm1, q2rdm2, ztn2dm3, q2duel5, ptrip, aeroq2, Make the rest of the maps voteable, pick the best 3 maps for up coming edl season -> fury, dm3, kolduel1, rdm7, ztn2dm3, match1 (perhaps some more vote options, don't know!) Then we keep the basic maps that are popular, and can vote for the last 3 that are either untested or tested before with not so good results. This makes it quite fair and interesting if we get REAL new maps or not. Please consider this, because currently I'm really not sure if I want to play if the majority can't say what maps we want to play!

	map list is great... dm3 sucked, at least for watching rdm7 is very nice map with low armor and health and it is always fun to watch cause quick comebacks are always possible... match1 is also great oldschool map I am definitely for higher number of maps... 9 maps are just fine tho

	well it's pretty hard to please everyone with the maplist. Some players want smaller maplist, some players want bigger. Smaller maplist normally equals to better quality of games, but bigger maplist gives some room for surprises and thus can keep things interesting. Dm3 was clearly the least played map, and this is why we thought that it should be removed so we can try out some other map which we didn't have in the last season. Adding new maps to the map list is easy, but then it will be really hard to get those maps on different servers. For example the q3dm13 remake for q2 does seem to be really nice, but how can we pick it to maplist when it's found maybe from 1 server out of 20? Those 3 new maps chosen, ztn2, rdm7 and m1 are found on all servers, so choosing them was wise in that sense. Ofcourse there are other choises like rdm5(aka duel3), which is liked by some, but disliked by even more. Fury is way too rail based, ztn1 is too unbalanced with RL, CG and RA practically on top of each other, also RG and CA are just a step away, so with one good spawn you can collect all those items and the other player may end up with just SSG and 25 armor. Well I can go on forever critizising those maps, but it's pretty clear that we had the best and most balanced maps already in the list and now we are trying to answer to some requests for new maps the best we can. You are welcome to write down your desired map list here in the comments, atleast then you'll see how everyone wants the different things.

	Tbh, I have not been playing any 'not normal' maps the last years simply since I play the tournaments, so it's been a 'waste of time' I'm 100% sure that I like koldduel1 better than half the current maps. But there are more, I'm sure of it. We should have minimum of 7 maps in the pool. If it's 7-9-11-20 I don't know. Atleast something new and refreshing most likely would be welcomed by most.
