EDL #10 Launch2011-09-13 08:34 | Welkin
Finally, EDL #10 is launched! I, flagWelkin, have taken over as head admin after wision, and I hope that the scene will be equally satisfied with the work I am to deliver, along with my crew of admins.

I have made a few changes in the league, of which many are presented in the 2011 Regeneration Manifesto, and others are explained in the new rule sheet for the season. It is highly recommended to read the rules!

One matter that can not be mentioned too many times, is that this season will feature prize money in all divisions! The amount of money will be disclosed at a later point.

Here's a summary of some of the most important changes:

1) SCHEDULE

Oct 3 - Dec 22: Group phase, part 1
Dec 23 - Jan 8: Christmas break
Jan 9 - Apr 29: Group phase, part 2
Apr 30 - Jun 3: Playoffs

This means that the group phase will last for 28 weeks, and the playoffs 5 weeks. This schedule will be enforced!

2) LEAGUE DETAILS
- 2 or 3 divisions & double-elimination playoffs
- prize money in every division
- 1 round = 2 weeks
- games that have not been scheduled before Wednesday in the 2nd week, will be scheduled/forced by an admin (section 3.2).
- ragequitting may be punished (section 3.3 & 7.2).
- a more clear & harsh punishment/warnings system (section 7).
- a pretty handy match settings voting script/alias has been made. view here.

3) SIGN UPS
- sign ups deadline is September 25th, 24.00 CET (midnight before Monday). sign up here.
- all registered players must provide an admin with their email address (section 3.1). preferably by emailing quake2edl at gmail dot com.

4) DEMOS & SCREENSHOTS
This is a big change, and it is very important to follow. This is the exact excerpt from the rule sheet:
"3.4.1 All players are forced to publish their POV demos, meaning their own recorded point of view (no spectator demos are valid), from all maps played.
3.4.2 Players must upload their demos to Demosquad, within 48 hours of the scheduled starting time of the game in question. Any degree of failure to do so may result in a number of warnings, as stated in section 7.2.
3.4.3 Before 12.00 CET the day after the game, both players are expected to provide an admin – either by email or IRC – with screenshots of each map’s final score, plus the order in which the maps were played. This as a step to lighten the work load for admins during season."

5) MAP POOL
Most players within the scene are able to vote for which maps to be included in this season's map pool here. Voting deadline: Sep 23, 24.00 CET.

Most americans are too worried about their ego's. This is my 3rd or 4th edl season and I've never really wanted to do a home\away match because I don't think it would help me in any way. I've only played one match like that last season and it was still fun to play. http://q2scene.net/edl/index.php?op=descr&id=67021

Some say they rail better with around 100 ping than say 20, but have hard time believing it. (right gren?) hmmf....but it's for sure still playable, very much. I have been fine with 100 ping a lot of times. So I can definitely see americans don't rly have problems playing here, esp. with a home/away structure; fairest!

I don't mind playing on Euro servers at all, really. I aim just fine with a 120/90 ping.

sofiene: 5.1.6 Players have the right to refuse to play on non-European servers, but are encouraged not to.

"now you want to have usa servers in edl ?"

I never said that. That would kill the purpose of the European duel league.

fader, did you forgot NADL were you forced usa servers ? the servers were not tourney4 and no-alias,but servers made for the league were euros ping shit,i played with 350 ping then quited the league....remmember ?,now you want to have usa servers in edl ? emo

but at least,i tryed and got raped ofc with 350 ping wich with it,you cant even run emo,in edl,you will have 100+ wich is not bad,so at least, try and make some usa players to try emo

Teioch, I don't think many Americans are interested with EDL at all. Most are just casual players for teams and a duel every now and then and don't play competitively; not to mention most great US players are busy playing QL. (Dahang and maybe scooby? emo ) Also only people on the east coast ping 90-120 to EU, and players on the west coast would ping like 200 to EU. But it would be good if more players signed up for EDL. The US q2 scene isn't nearly as active as the European q2 scene is. Given though, there ARE players, most of them don't seem that interested in competitive play. But what do I know? I'd rather not stuff words in peoples mouths, but I'm just making a few observations here.
