It seems there's no break in between EDL seasons, since the division 2 grand final was so horrendously postponed... But nothing wrong with that! Gotta deliver the mightiest (perhaps not mighty, but indeed mightiest!) Quake2 competition left/around on time!
Last season was a bit of an experiment with all the changes to its format and regulations. Some proved to be good and some to be less good. Most of the less good stuff is hopefully being altered and improved for EDL #11 - in one way or another. Especially the length of the season - I can't say this enough!
It's quite difficult to say exactly how long we intend this season to be, as the number of participants (in each division) affects this more than anything else. We're not counting on anywhere near as many sign ups as last year, and we might even regulate some of them in some way, in order to not have as many inactive and absent players listed this time. We'll just have to wait and see, and somewhat play it by ear.
1) Season Time Frame
The sign ups phase has now begun, and the deadline is Wednesday, September 26th, 24.00 CET. Sign up . You have to be logged in to access the page.
When you sign up, please provide us with an active email address. If we don't have one, we can not guarantee that you receive important information from us. We are not liable for the consequences of this. Email us at quake2edl at gmail dot com.
The league starts on October 1st, and the group phase should be done before Christmas. Each round will last for a week (a new round every Monday).
It is not decided if the playoffs will have a single or double elimination layout this season, or even how many players will advance to this stage. It might sound a bit optimistic, but it shouldn't last for more than a month. So basically, by the end of January EDL #11 might be over.
2) Rule Sheet
The rules will be updated. Some of them will be open for discussion in public, and all kinds of suggestions will be welcome. A first draft of the rule sheet will be disclosed in a soon-to-be-created forum thread. Stay tuned!
The final version of the rule sheet will hopefully be published no later than September 23rd, giving you three days to decide if you wish to partake in the gibb after having been informed about how the league will be policed.
Update includes: - the means to force selected players to make cam recordings of their games (ŕ la David in the EDL #10 grand final) - lower warnings limit due to the season being shorter - new website for uploading demos, hopefully making it a lot less time consuming and difficult for both players and admins
Another reminder about the official EDL time zone, and how to make sure your Q2scene website tells you the right time! Read about it .
3) Map Pool Vote
Like last season we've decided to allow a vote for the maps included in the map pool. The vote takes place here:
Unlike last year, only participants' votes will count.
Deadline for voting is Sunday, September 23rd, 24.00 CET. That means you'll get another three days to decide whether or not you wish to sign up after knowing the maps.
4) Admins
norman was asked to repeat his duties this season, but had to turn us down. I believe the reason was that he had too much going for him in the so called real life. He will be missed. The vacancy has now been filled by Captain America, aka claire. Welcome!
Ceba and IsBjorn will continue admining, for which I'm eternally grateful. Couldn't ask for better people to work with! I myself will try and take a step back, rather supervising the league than actively admining it. We'll see how that goes. Either way I'll always be available on , and informed about the ongoings by the other guys.
We're striving to decrease the admins' work load this season (as always). This might result in fewer email/IRC reminders and less hand-holding. The players are expected to show a greater sense of responsibility (also as always).
The seeding will be done by the four of us. When/if necessary, other people may be consulted. The seeding results may be announced as late as Monday morning, October 1st. Expect 3-4 divisions - divisions more fair than last time.
5) Prizes
Yes, EDL #11 will have prizes. Most probably in the shape of money, though less than last season. Prizes will hopefully be announced sometime between the 23rd and 26th of September.
Guess that's about it for now... | |
