The st1gmata situation

It's been known for a while now that something has been curious with st1gmata's movement this season. Many players assumed he was changing certain cvars in-game to gain an agility advantage. Proving this either true or false was not easy. I did take some steps on my servers (updating q2admin) in order to log this behavior, but as it turns out it was an issue with his motherboard that was causing a timescale issue in-game effectively making st1gmata move faster than his opponent ever could. New firmware installed and the issue seems to be resolved.

Was this intentional? I personally like to believe the best in people so I sincerely hope not, but we can never really know.

The crew all agrees that at the absolute least, st1gmata should replay his playoff games. Because every game in his branch of the tree has been a walkover since his first match with IsBjorn, that's not a big deal. I've already adjusted the playoff tree accordingly. Replaying all of his group stage matches is just out of the question as it would totally mess up the rest of the playoffs. Looking at the Division 1a group results, it's not unreasonable that st1gmata would've made it to the playoffs anyway; Myr retired, and Reverence didn't play.

I decided not to kick him out of the league because there is a chance he genuinely didn't do this on purpose. I hear he plays on his work computer (as I do) and it could have been modified by IT staff for his work, etc. We'll probably never know and like I mentioned earlier, I like to believe the best in people.

Should St1gmata decide to withdraw from the league since his gains were ill-gotten (intentionally or not) I would be happy to give detina his spot in the playoffs since he was next in line, assuming detina hasn't gone into hibernation yet.

	bot7, read carefully i wrote in my preview message here. If you consider, what CRT monitor or timers dont give "you" any unfair advantages, you confess double standarts, imho. If i dont have (use) it, it does not means i dont want to use it, but others can do it, so its not problem of that guys. I also wrote about my possible continue in EDL17, so let the players and admins make descision, and dont waste time each others. We can replay our game with detuna (if all others cant or dont want), this match will decide who will play with isbjorn in playoffs. If only way go forward its direct game with isbjorn, just give him win by wo or let detuna replace me. Peace. ��: 2019-01-07 20:42

	Ceba - "having better hardware can't be considered cheating" - Cheating, or EXPLOITING/IN-GAME EXPLOIT, is abusing unintended mechanics which results in your personal gain and an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE, something the game isn't SUPPOSED TO OFFER! For me that is CHEATING! The BIOS story was really great, and i understand pretty well you don't have any proof, but still that doesn't change the fact he has had visible advantage over his opponents! It's still scummy and cheating and he fully deserves to get banned. P.s: Please don't push tthe dialogue in the "better mouse, keybord, internet direction" the subject is different.

	bo7asky.bg it was his bios settings that apparently made him a bit faster. And we don't know if he did that on purpose even so, it was hardware not a software that made him faster. In my opinion that can't be considered cheating. what if one player has better internet, less lag and wins because of that. What about mouse, keyboard, monitor etc. These things mean a lot, they can mean that you will win or lose. Of course q2 is an old game and it doesn't make that much difference but having better hardware can't be considered cheating. In theory everyone can change base clock and maybe they would move faster. other thing is if player changes files, uses some kind of software that is intended to give him unfair advantage, then it is cheating. Its only after skullers theory about system clock timing that admins could do something, before that there were only opinions. It is not like admins can change server software to chech what's wrong. And there was no other way.

	I think the best decision is to replace stigmata with detina. I know we are a small community, but that doesn't change the fact what's stigmata did. It doesn't matter if he hacked or did in-game exploit, it was a scummy move which is considered cheating - Cheating, or exploiting, is abusing unintended mechanics which results in your personal gain and an unfair advantage! How many ppl noticed that there is something extraordinary with his movement and etc. I can tell you - A lot. Even i was fooled that is just an "eye" problem, but actually was hack or in-game exploit (which is cheating by all means)! I still beleive that the worst thing in this case is the late admins reaction. You should have checked this BS when ppl start talking in order to avoid the "mess". and prevent ppl got pwned by a ppl who is using something as an advantage! 	AlexJ: the two week thing is just to allow more games to be played. If gave a deadline of 1 week, every game would be a walkover. As it is with 2 weeks most games are walkovers... Unfortunately many players just see the deadline as the day to play and sit there waiting the whole time. It would be great if everyone just played their games 2 days after it was created and got this show on the road...

	As I mentioned in Discord a few times, I don't think St1gmata intentionally used anything, but there was something wrong with his speed even if he didn't realise it. I had played St1gmata a few times in the weeks leading up to EDL and noticed even then that something wasn't right, but it was confirmed during EDL when others began to realise the same thing. I don't think St1gmata deserves any kind of punishment or disqualification because, like he said, it wasn't intentional. Or in a legal environment there isn't any "motive". However, I do believe, like most others, that some games need to be replayed. I retired from Q2 shortly before Christmas so any games against me are automatic W/Os. It was my 20 year anniversary in November of 2018 and I had decided that I'd given enough of my life to Quake 2. I was planning on retiring anyway but thought I would see EDL out first. I didn't have a great deal of motivation to begin with but the constant pressure and harassment I was receiving from some people in the scene was getting pernicious and stepping over moral boundaries. The Q2 scene has become extremely toxic, so I decided to just put it to rest. If I can I will still try to be a part of the Q2 scene in some way but I won't be playing Q2 anymore. I've been thinking about making some duel tutorial or demo analysis videos for YouTube because I thought it would be a waste of twenty years of experience and knowledge if I don't document what I know in some way. 	Hi ppl!=) As you know, i always was against any kind of cheats or non skill advanages in Q2 (even timers, as you know, there are no official timers in any Quake game), and still think the same. You are also know, what i didnt see any speed advantages during my games, you saw it in demos eather, whats why i not pay much attantion to words and ask proofs. Then i see k1ru stream... Earlier (and after stream) i advice to all in Discord to ask skuller (q2pro server developer) to help solve problem, because i dont know what a reason of this. In DC i also asked about software to record my screen during games, to proove what i say, but nobody answer me about it. Nevermind... skuller advise few variations, one of it was BIOS reset or update, it was 1st i did, and like ppl said it work. For myself i didnt see visible changes. As i said many times before, i dont need (and dont want) any wins with nonskill advantages or wo's. With this shit, EDL loosing any sense for me. In case i wrote before, IMHO, detina could replace me in finals, or i can replay all my group stage games with active players in shortest time by myself, in dates and time others can play. Dunno, is it possible or not, and who want it except of me. Sorry for your time guys, it wasnt intentionally. I advice variations, now you decide. GL HF And... dont warry, be happy. =)

	I believe this is a fair decision! What i don't believe is that a player of the highest level dint notice this.DId not say something is wrong etc,instead he kept playing his further matches which made even bigger mess(intentionally or not).If i remember correctly his first match was vs myrmidon,who did complain on koldduel1.This issue should have been fixed earlier in group stage. Anyway...
