Player ID does help you land some shots easier, specfically those which you can see a player's name but not their model on your screen. That sort of shot is very common on q2duel1, for instance with the one where your opponent respawns in front of rocket launcher and you're camping with railgun by machinegun ammo.
Anyway, even though it's a rule, I don't think it's a big deal. Everybody uses player ID. In opentdm, it's on by default. Also in TDM, player ID is useful to have on, because it lets you see how much armor and health your teammates have.
This is is a bullshit about showing opponent's name in demos - check any demo, u'll see the same (isb-sya as an example). So do u mind they are all cheaters? Oo
And you DO use cheats. Not all the time, but I have seen you blatantly use them, and I've heard from others that you have even admitted using them.
It's just sad that you've never been able to beat me on DM1 even with cheats. Only reason ANYONE can beat me on DM1 these days is because I'm semi-retired. Other than that, I still remain the strongest DM1 player on this planet.
And customisation is cheating to a certain degree. It's about polar extremes. On one end of the spectrum you have raw, Vanilla Quake 2. On the other end you have aim bots and wall hacks. So where do you draw the line?
It's OK to change a sound, as long as the new sound inhabits the same, or similar characteristics. Same with skins, and anything else in Quake 2.
Yes Delita i've played this game since 1998-2000/2007-2015 and i think its time for you to make a difference between cheats and customization! (all the bright skins, modified sounds, weapons, etc)
Next time when i am dueling with you (unknown future) I'll set up my R1Q2 driver to software, and i'll hope you won't labeled me as a cheater while i am beating your sorry ass around the q2dm1!
About the "ID" stuff - we have admins, i am not here to defend nobody, but i can tell whats my opinion!
First of all, I have 0 respect for this kid as a character of this scene,but as a dueler he has my respect for playing so much and keeping alive this game. I'm not that serious when I talk in game vs certain players because they give 0 respect aswell. Crying only about what I said and not the whole conversation and situation,I see a man craving for some attention. I'm not keeping the score vs you boy,but is clear that you are a more trained player then me. That's the truth,but when I play a duel match I always try to do my best, even if I have some bad conditions like my internet for this game. I continued to play the second map because you said "you don't have time", even thou I said "fuck your time" (didn't said "I" fuck your time-too personal), I counted that you have some problems or so bc of real life,cause I am not a jerk and I know how life is going on. I wasted 5 min of my life for replying this to david even thou I know he don't deserve 1 sec from me. Kid you'll grow and you'll realise not to take things too personal. You've played Quake 2 for how many years Zion, and you don't understand how the ID display gives advantages?
People think that it's OK to do stuff like use ID displays, and modify sounds to the point where all you hear is footsteps amplified above all other sounds, and removing Chain gun sounds for more clarity. Well, it's actually not. From my point of view, it's actually seen as cheating, and there is a very strong argument to back it up.
To change a weapons sound is one thing, but to remove the characteristics of a sound is another.
Taking this point of view also implicates bright skins as being a form of cheating. But the reason they are acceptable is because the game is about killing the enemy through a number of methods, such as aim, movement, strategy and manipulation. Therefore, some people may have difficulty seeing default skins depending on this config settings, but it's mostly just those with bad eyes who have trouble with it. And so, bright skins are acceptable, but removing aspects of the game that actually gives a handicap in specific skill areas is considered cheating. Or adding anything for that matter, such as ID display, allowing people to locate players positions in water and such. That should be done via experience and intelligence, not with an ID display.
3.3.8 ID mode turned on (showing the opponent's name when aiming at him/her) during the game may result in penalty, and possibly even forfeiture of maps where the Crew considers its use to have been of considerable value. It is toggled on/off by typing "id".
10mins before match , I wrote to Numavezi at irc: give me your best servers(I have good ping on 90%servers), I need start at 21:00 because I dont have time, I must have to leave after 22:00. He gave me 1 server, I had jumping ping there and a lot of packet loss. He said im scared to play at this ping. He gave ip for packetflinger, both ping 33. After duel8 he said, "i have lags". Before duel5 he said we must change server but he didnt paste an ip We start duel5, 3mins before end he leave team. He wrote im nerd, im gay. He didnt ask me about forced game, he didnt paste any ip.
