Rule Changes

Were currently in the process of updating the rules, but as many of you would like to start playing games, there are a few rule changes that you should know about as soon as possible.

Map picking procedure
This season were doing a KICK, KICK, PICK, PICK setup. So each team kicks a map first, then each picks a map. Then you play and if a decider is needed you kick maps until 1 is left. This procedure is for GROUP Bo3 games only. Playoffs and finals will the same rules as last year.

Nofreeze setting
The default nofreeze setting for teleports is disabled. If both players agree to enable it, theyre more than welcome to vote it on.

Ragequit/giving up
Stopping in the middle of a game is now allowed if both players agree before ending the game. The player requesting the stop will still receive -75 frags for the map but no warnings will be given.

Home/away refusal
You can still refuse to play on non-european server, but the following consequences then apply:
1) -20 frags will be added to the refusers score on each map
2) The refusee gives 2 maps for decider should it be necessary. These can include previously kicked maps.
3) The refuser will receive 1 warning

I'll edit this and leave a comment when the rules are finished. You should read through at that point.

Remember to use the comment section of your game pages to give availability to schedule the games.

Round 1 officially starts Monday October 14. You can play games before then if you like.

I know Delita keeps mentioning taking his spot, but that's just because it doesn't take any actual work on his part to make that happen. Your recent reputation is against you though. I didn't know you back when you were active, my knowledge of you comes from the past couple years in which you pop-up out of nowhere around EDL beginning time and then disappear and don't fulfill your commitments. I understand, we all have real lives and things that take priority, and if you signed up when signups were open there would be no problem with that. However I'm willing to bet there is a 95% or higher chance you're going to disappear before the end of EDL. I'm a very busy guy, I have a wife, 2 small kids, a fulltime job and other things that take up my life. I'm not willing to waste my time adding you just to have you flake-out and disappear. Perhaps if q2scene.net weren't so terrible on the admin side when it comes to making changes once the schedule is set, but it is and takes a HUGE amount of work to move people around manually. That being said, I'm very happy you're back! The more people in the scene the better. Since you're unable to play in EDL this season I hope you'll support the scene by hanging out in IRC. For a week or so you were all over the TDM servers playing constantly, but I haven't seen you since though - you should keep playing. Edge League and ADL will probably be coming up in a couple months and I urge you to join them. PM me your email address to make sure you get the reminder email when signups open.

	The rage reply! Careem, true Quake 2 players don't play for money. One thing I have realised in the last couple of years, after many conversations about it, is that unless a cash prize is at least 10,000 euros or above, then it isn't going to draw any new players or motivation to the scene. It's a nice gesture, but really you are doing it to hedge your tax, not for the benefit of Quake 2.

	I stopped with Q2 in 2009 not 2010. I was planning to host a Q2 points tournament after the new year with total of prize money 600,00eu. 4 invited players and 4 most points earned players in the final. Why giving away 600eur? With donating money I lower my tax in the end of the year at my company. Instead of paying all the tax I would give the money to something I spent half of my life on it. The next small plan was to make / update new Quick Quake2 installer by careem (include new cfgs, new r1q2 features, servers in ingame, edl maps, tdm map and to lower the size of Q2 much as possible). In the end / the last thing I wanted to make was to post again weekly / monthly all Quake2 news on esreality.com. Unfortunately, I'm not going to do anything for the community now. I respected kinex all these years as a player we played a lot together when I was active, he was supporting me and so on. Now when I came back he was talking crap to me with fake nick, while with his real was nice person to me. And now this. This is the biggest disappointment of the community that I would expect. So small community should respect every comeback of old / q2 players. Anyway, thanks to kinex for making my will and motivation disappeared. 	Quake Live have a new feature where you can see how many hours per day did player spend playing. You can clearly see that I was not able to play QL months / weeks. I was playing by periods. It was dependant on how I was working. Edit: Forgot that standard users cant see more than 1month of player history. You can see at qlranks.com. 	Past discourtesies are unfortunate, especially when I hear they happened from a fellow American. Hopefully, fair play can be the rule of thumb now - switch back and forth from the most fair-pinged servers for any player. I ping 20 to Tastyspleen Texas, but would never demand a euro play me there. I'd hope the perfect matches would be split between t4-east and pfuk for any euro in my div. Anyway, gl to all, hope for a good, fun season!

	USA players in European Duel League? Let me tell you something. Me, isbjorn and god knows who else already played in Nort American Duel League. We were forced to play on their server. We were forced to play where they (adrenaline had 15ping) and me 170. They didnt let me to choose a srv for my better ping (east coast 130). However, I won everyone with this ping. Didnt have a lose though not even against Adrenaline. He as an admin was at first map pausing the match every few secs. Once he keept paused match for 15min. IT was 2 am in central Europe. He knew that I was very tired, but he was keep pausing. This dismotivated me a lot of playing in their league. I didnt show up 2weeks. My winning points were taken away. My 1/8 which I won was removed. Adrenaline put points to himself and made himself 1st in his group. They were really unfair to all the European participants. They treaded us like with the pigs. I will never forget this! We are so kind to them now? Leting them choose a srv?

	There is no strategy to map picking. People either know the map or they don't. Knowing a map doesn't come down to the abilities of the player, it comes down to how much of a social life you lack. Firstly, I don't have the time to practice a bunch of new maps that only 1 or 2 people are going to pick. Secondly, half of these maps can't even be considered as duelling maps due to bad design. The only thing you're doing with the kick kick pick pick rule is telling players it's OK to be bad at the most important maps in Quake 2, like DM1. Oh, and as for the Home/Away system. The best case scenario for that situation is to play european server and let the Americans pick both maps. It's a simple bartering technique, trading low ping for a second map.

	i think the most exciting map picking system based on strategy is the limitation when a player may pick each map just twice during the group stage. we tried it on rdl and it was really fun. for the playoff the best way is still the common q2 system with all maps allowed to pick, because it's about to see our favourite players on our/their favourite maps in the final stages. what about the picking system used in this season, it's a like the players qualify to the playoff to play a bit the other game there. e.g. if delita advance, he will abuse his best map that he didn't even play in the group stage. i dont mean it's good or bad, but it totally change the things if you play free pick or not. 	I like this voting system since it probably favors players who are more well-rounded on more maps in the map pool, rather than being able to win by being good at only a few maps. Also with removing maps earlier, it might add more strategy when it comes to deciding what maps to kick. Either way though, I don't really care which system the admins use. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me, overall.

	No reason to force h/a. Actually I'll probably end up playing at the UK server I ping like 90 there. I just love giving you guys options. Why leave the option to refuse? Because if that rule were just removed there would probably be a mutiny. Again this isn't for americans, it's for everyone. Salad, for example, would probably like to play home/away if we can find him a spanish server. Or think about people with bad routing, if they can find one server that's good for them they might want to do it too. Obviously neutral servers are preferred, but if you can't find one, you should want to play a fair game by doing h/a. It's just to level the playing field for people who don't have enough courtesy to play fair with their fellow players.

	as long as it's stable and lag-free, it's fine. i mean, i ping 90 to uk, so sometimes the ping difference is only 30-40. it's a little different for people like ex or adrenaline who live more out west than me or claire.

	Fader, at an spanish server i was thinkin also, there isnt one atm. Maybe i can fix one at least for the edl period. This is not for me since i will ping 20-30 on that server but for the other european players wich will ping around 80 most of them. Dunno any provider wich would host an spanish server tho... need to make some research, maybe Claire knows more about this. le: I can even host server on my computer when edl starts if any american and european wants, i ll check it out, if my line suports it. 	salad: yes, you may agree on a neutral server. as hpw vs an lpb, i doubt you'll be able to lose with less than 20-0 on maps like ptrip, kold, duel5, rdm5, rdm7, and ztn3. if you do, your opponent is probably doing everything wrong, and you deserve the win. fact is that there is no perfect solution. this is just much better than what we had before though.

	Since is an international competition among present choices, can we have the option of an neutral server? an 3rd party server where both players ping almost the same? if there is one where both ping less then 140 for exemple? I think many european players would like to play in usa, brazil or russia etc and have +20 frags per map . It's not uncommon to see scores of 60:0, especially against an hpb. -20 will still mean a win on a rape map but give the hpb a chance on a non-rape map (dm1, bloodrun). "and most usa players use to play with high ping" I've heard this logic over and over, and I don't know why you guys keep kidding yourselves on this. I play on TST4 with a ping of 10 most of the time...

	Refusal h/a system is to harsh imo, because its EDL,not IDL (international...) and most of the usa players use to play with high ping and its kinda unfair for EU player
