Playoffs Have Started!!!

The playoff trees have been planted, so start playing your matches now!

If you're going to be away for the an extended period of time during and after the holidays please try to play a match or two before you leave. Being gone until the end of January really throws a wrench in the works. If you know you're going to be gone for decent amount of time, please tell an admin before so we don't waste time and can work it out.

The results of the playoff style vote were overwhelmingly for a double elimination, so that's what we're going with.

The grand finals will be changed this year to a best-of-5 instead of 7. To give the winners-bracket player an advantage, they only have to win the best-of-5. The losers-bracket player must win the best-of-5 to tie with the advantage and then win another best-of-5 to win the match.

That's also exactly what I told Hi7man after he freaked out because of his w/o. We treat everyone the same according to the rules, that's the only way to actually get anything done.

	i understand ceba my mistake for not informing you guys about what my plans were after being absent for ~3 weeks i guess, but just trying to clarify this situation salad had brought up. decision is made now shame i couldn't play in playoffs i think i could have done some damage played vs sol after not touching q2 in nearly a month was very rusty and shakey but tried my best and took him very seriously. 	I'm sure if I dug through my IRC logs I could find quite a number of examples. I wasn't going to say this because it's too blunt, but I know that if it was me in Rev's situation I would have just been told: tough, it's your own fault, you shouldn't be this and that. Favouritism is something I've seen a lot throughout the years of EDL. I'm really not getting in to this kind of debate now. It's too complex and takes a lot of case building. Edited: 2014-12-12 05:00

	Delita - How exactly is EDL run in a highly unethical manner? We have an exhaustive set of rules that cover just about every possible scenario. We (ceba isb, k1ru and myself) treat everyone the same and hold everyone accountable to the rules they implicitly agreed to by signing up.

	Reverence, neither I or Claire knew that you played, you didn't send screens, and I personally don't check all days irc logs. So you should understand how easy it is to miss that. Deadline was sunday, playoff trees were up on tuesday I think. If you dont have time to play. Talk to us, let us know. I am not a mind reader if you are gone I dont have any idea when, if ever, you are coming back. A simple message would have fixed all the problems.

	EDL is fair for the most part, but the way it's run is highly unethical in a lot of cases. At the end of the day, it's all we have left in Quake 2. Games should be played on time or you shouldn't bother signing up. If there is a valid reason why you can't play your game then you need to make it clear to a admin way before the deadline so it can be reworked. There is always a lot of complaining considering all the half arsed commitment. Either do it properly, or don't do it at all. Edited: 2014-12-12 04:59

	Salad, what if there is a real reason for that other player not to play. For example he planned something (holidays) he played all hi games or didn't. What then? Should he lose cause of that, cause some other player didnt show up when he was suppose to. There is none to blame. Rules are equal to everyone. If player are equally interested in playing that game then it will be forced. We cant force someone to play. How can this be fair. Both have w/o, but then someone pops up and he get the win? You all complain about long leagues, how its affects your motivation and then you turn around and do not play, don not comment. If games are not forced they might never be played. There are lots and lots of example when we waited and waited for games to be played. All this just drags the leagues to no end.

	i played my match with sol before playoffs were put up but this seems to have been ignored, sol and i were supposed to play sunday but he was a little later than we agreed therefore i had to go due to irl situations. was waiting in irc for MHz all weekend and even messaged on q2scene on sunday after not being able to find or hear from him, soonest i heard from him was on monday. yes i should have played my matches during the scheduled time but what is the point of the deadline if that is all that matters? i was trying to sort things out before the announced deadline and couldn't arrange some games despite being available, i did not receive any credit for this. i think salad made lots more effort in the time from our scheduled match to the deadline that was announced so i was willing to give him the w.o even if he was unable to play our match on the announced deadline weekend. i'm just stating a few facts here, there are a number of people who feel this is quite unfair what has happened to me. i would like to have participated in playoffs but looks like admins will not budge on this one. good luck to everyone who reached playoffs

	I agree players should play their games in time not in last couple of days. If two players get double w/o (cause they didnt provide dates or were equaly interested) what happens if one player still wants to play that game before the group stage deadline and the other one cant or doesnt want? the game remains as it is, w/o? Cause if so, it might favour one or another depending points and placement in group

	What gap salad? A deadline is the date set for something. We emailed and posted that players had until Sunday to play all their outstanding matching. Rev tried to play before the deadline and didn't make it. I even waited a couple days before putting up the playoff trees for players to report matches. I just don't understand why players sit there for weeks or months not playing games then freak out in the last couple days trying to get their matches played and get mad when it doesn't work out in their favor.

	What about Reverence situation? what deadline stands for? cause it seems over the weekend he tried to play his game with Mhz. Can someone clear this? Dont want to rock the boat but in future leagues players might take advantage of this ¨gap¨ in the rules. Probaly Mhz denied to play against Reverence just to conserve his place in playoffs, but ofc, i might be also wrong.
