Ok, were changing it up. Many players voiced their opinions that the pool was too big, so were going to the other extreme. The pool will consist of 7 maps and you vote on every one of them. The choices are made up of the top 13 maps from every EDL season.
You still have until midnight on September 21 to vote and votes will only count if the player is signed up at the time the vote ends. Feel free to change your votes if you want but please edit your original comment to reflect your current vote.
In the event of a tie, the map voted first wins.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the starting of the 13th annual Quake 2 European Duel League!
Signups are open now and will remain open for 3 weeks, until 23:59 on September 28. You can signup but please remember to send us an email at quake2edl@gmail.com so we have your current email address. Failure to make sure we have your email address will result in you not being seeded into a group.
Maps
There is a map vote already in progress , please comment with your votes for the remaining maps in the pool. The map vote will close one week before signups close (23:59 on September 21) to give you a chance to decide if you want to play with the chosen maps.
Schedule
So far, we plan on keeping the same format of divisions for the league. Depending on the number of signups group phase could last from the start of October until mid December and then playoffs in the beginning of the year Until March. Obviously this is highly dependent on how fast players play their games.
Time Zone
Remember the official time zone of EDL is Central European Time (GMT+1). Make sure you set your time zone on your Q2Scene profile to CET so times are shown correctly and you dont miss scheduled matched.
Rules
As always please read and understand . You will be expected to play your matches according to the rules and breaking them (whether you knew it or not) will result in warnings.
Please idle in our IRC channel #edl on , it really makes scheduling matches and finding people much easier. is a great free IRC client.
Anyone who wants to play is welcome to join, no matter what nationality, location or skill level you are. As long as you agree to follow the rules and play your matches on time.

THIS VOTE IS VOID CLICK FOR THE NEW MAP VOTE
We went with the same idea as last year where the six most played maps were automatically in the pool. Then some remaining maps from last years pool plus some from previous years are included in vote #1. You need to pick three maps from vote #1. Then vote #2 is made up of maps that have never been played in EDL, however many of them were played in ADL #1. You need to pick two maps from vote #2.
You have until Sunday, September 21 at 23:59CET to vote and your votes will only be counted if youre signed up to play in the league at that time. Feel free to change your vote if you want to up until the deadline, but please edit your original post to reflect your current choices.
All maps are currently available on all the Packetflinger servers and hopefully theyll make it into the maplists on the other popular servers out there soon. I suggest you play a few games on the ones youre not familiar with before finalizing your votes.

Well, this season has finally concluded. Id like to congratulate this seasons winners; you played valiantly, demonstrated extraordinary skill and proved youre some of the top players in the scene:

On Ceba's, IsBjorn's, K1ru's and my behalf, Id like to sincerely thank you for signing up and participating in EDL this year. The Quake 2 scene has definitely gotten smaller in recent years, but hopefully we can keep it alive for many years to come. I know that were not attracting new younger players and all of our lives are getting more complicated with jobs, spouses, kids and other real-life responsibilities. So taking time out of your busy life to play really means a lot and we all appreciate that.
Wed love to get some feedback from both players and spectators as to what we can do to make things better/easier/faster. Anyone have any ideas for next season? Leave a comment.

After tweaking div 1 and finishing 3 and 4, all playoff trees should be set and you should start playing matches as soon as possible.
There was a shortage of players in 3a and 4b after kicking out players with huge numbers of warnings so the #5 player from the opposite group was given the #4 spot in those cases.
Remember to post your availability on the match page, not just "where are you?"
Remember map selection reverts back to the "pick pick kick kick" system for playoffs! Read section 4.2.2 in the rules to clarify how maps are selected and played during playoffs.
Please be considerate of others, holding up your match stalls the entire playoff process. I hate giving w/o games in playoffs, but we can't hold up everyone for you to wait for the perfect day to play. In other words, try to play your games as soon as you can.

UPDATE - we would like to have each playoff round last about a week. But this first round will last until january 26 or sooner if all games get played. |
