Our good friend Tei0ch has offered to support the scene and EDL in a rather unique way, with mystery prizes:
Quote: To help things run more smoothly (hopefully) in EDL, I could provide cash prizes for various achievements. Yes, this is no ordinary money collection which would only go to the winners with pre-known amounts. My way deals with 'unknown' amounts (not even the Admins know) and it is also unknown where and how the prizes are given out. They are hidden to everyone but me and can only be 'revealed' (thusly rewarded) if they're triggered with right conditions pre-determined by me.
If a player would happen to 'activate' one of those triggers - a few are rock sturdy while others are more resilient - he/she would be asked to accept the Reward Prize for activating it (using Paypal only) and if the person cannot or will not accept the cash, prize is then going back to the funds and will be merged with the rest (this may vary 'how' exactly). If the last remaining prize ends up like that, it is going back to myself. If un-triggered prizes are left behind, they too are going back to me.
Same prizes cannot be won twice (not the same as amounts), and also same trigger points cannot exist more than one time. The total number of triggers is unknown as well.
This is in other words NOT compensation for a potential EDL Prize pot, but simply a separate independent system meant to experimentally have some fun yet reward those who deserve it; either logically (like skill-wise) or bit more random. /Quote
So throughout the whole season Tei0ch will be watching and rewarding players for random bits of awesome Quake 2 playing. I would assume there are triggers like hitting more than 1 air rocket in a match, or perhaps making the jump from GL to the mega-room door on DM1 during a game, or not hes not telling us what they are.
I think this is a great idea and would like to thank Tei0ch for supporting us like this. I hope this will help reduce the number or W/O games this season. Thanks!

I'm extremely happy to announce that signups are now open for the 12th season on EDL! Sign up , and send us an email at quake2edl@gmail.com giving us your current active email address. You should also hang out in the official IRC channel: #edl on irc.quakenet.org.
Always remember the official timezone of EDL is CET (GMT+1). Be sure to set the right timezone in your q2scene profile - read about it .
Schedule Signups will be open until midnight on Sept. 29 and the season officially starting the week after that. We trying to stick with a similar schedule as last year having group phase go until mid-December then taking a break for Christmas and playoffs going until the end of January or early February.
Obviously this all depends on how many players sign up and how prompt they are at playing...
Maps There is a map vote on the forum to finalize the map pool.
Rules As always you should read and make sure you understand . There will be some changes but we'll let you know via email and a news post when they're updated. You should go to to discuss the rules and any edits/additions/deletions you think should be made.

I am very happy to be able to say that we are finally starting to gain some success in our war on this league's walkover rate! This season had the 3rd lowest w/o rate in EDL history, and considering the number of participants, I'd even say that in this regard this season has been the most successful!
#1 EDL 3 - w/o 16,3%, 48 participants #2 EDL 4 - w/o 17,86%, 57 part. #3 EDL 11 - w/o 17,89%, 74 part.
Many thanks to those admins and players who honored their commitments and saw this season through! Also much grateful to the community who endorses this league with donations, servers and attention! We depend on you all! |
