EDL #11 Prizes2013-01-05 14:38 | Welkin
My sincerest apologies for not announcing the prizes until now. I have no good excuse for putting it off this long.

Like I've mentioned a couple of times in earlier news posts, these figures are nowhere near last year's. The prizes are funded by two anonymous donors and forfeited prize money from EDL #10.

EDL #11 Prizes:

Div 1:
#1 50 €
#2 30 €
#3 20 €

Div 2:
#1 25 €
#2 15 €
#3 10 €

Div 3:
#1 15 €

The prize money will be paid out using Paypal.

Remember:
6.1.7 Before the season is announced to be completed, any participating player can receive warnings for any activities related to the league. Meaning players can theoretically be kicked out of the league even after having finished their last game.
6.1.8 A player who is kicked from the league, forfeits any possible prize. The prize is given to the EDL prize funds.

Playoff deadlines extended2012-12-12 15:49 | Welkin
The Crew has made the decision to extend all the playoff deadlines. It's become obvious that half a week long rounds do not work. People fail to play their games within this time, and we're not in the business of forfeiting 90% of the playoffs.

All playoff rounds will now be at least one week long. One or two may be longer because of the holidays.

Division 1-3:
Deadline #1: Dec 16
#2: Dec 30
#3: Jan 6
#4: Jan 13
#5-6: TBA, if any

Division 4:
#1: Finished
#2: Dec 16
#3: Dec 30
#4: Jan 6
#5-6: TBA, if any

The scheduling of a match follows the same system and rules as previously, as explained in section 3.2 in the rule sheet, but with two exceptions;

1) a match can not be scheduled later than its deadline,
2) matches will never be forced.

This means that if the players are unable to agree on a time and date, and the match is ultimately not played before the deadline, then it will turn into a w/o.

The w/o will go to whoever gave the other player more options of when to play, or was considerably more active and/or available. This assessment may be done in a quite capricious manner (rule 1.5 / 1.7).

If neither player provides times and dates in a comment on the match webpage, it may result in a double w/o, giving the next opponents free rounds.

The date and time for each match's deadline, is written out in the description on the individual match webpages.

Div 2-3 playoffs2012-12-05 22:43 | Welkin
I had some problems sorting out the div 2-3 playoffs now, so they're now being pushed forward to move alongside with the div 1 playoffs.

This means that the div 1 deadlines explained in the previous news post also go for div 2-3.

Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience.

Playoffs deadlines & rules2012-12-04 17:34 | Welkin
Playoffs are finally around the corner! We hope for it to be a great ending to a wonderful season! Dare I say this was indeed the finest season in a very long time. A very low forfeit rate, well seeded divisions with many many tight games, fairly few dropouts, new features like the demo site (which is just the Messiah of websites, as Jesus himself supposedly has put it), etc. Thanks to everybody who has made this possible!

Now, to the business at hand!

Most people already know that the top 4 players in each group advance to their respective division's playoff, and for those who don't; that's the deal. All playoffs are double elimination.

Here are the games' deadlines during the playoffs:

Div 1
Dec 9, 24.00 CET: Replay of any forfeits
Round 1: Dec 12
Round 2: Dec 16
Round 3: Dec 19
Round 4: Dec 30
5-6: Currently no deadlines

Div 2
Dec 5, 24.00 CET: Replay of any forfeits
Round 1: Dec 9
2: Dec 12
3: Dec 16
4: Dec 19
5: Dec 30
6: Jan 6

Div 3
Same as Div 2.

Div 4
Same as Div 2 & 3, but no longer any chance to replay group stage forfeits.

Also, don't forget to keep the rules in mind. These are specific for playoff games:

4.1.3 Games during playoffs (except the Grand Final) are played best out of five maps ("bo5").

4.1.5 A player may only pick one map in each match - even in the playoffs.

4.1.8 After having finished playing both players' map picks in a playoff game, the following two (or four in the Grand Final) maps to play are chosen through map elimination. Whoever has earned the higher net value (own score minus opponent's score) in the first two maps, will choose who starts eliminating the remaining maps. Also, the player who did not start eliminating, will pick which map (out of the chosen two or four) to play first. The following maps in the Grand Final, are picked by turns.

4.2.3 During playoffs; non-OpenTDM servers may only be allowed if 4.4.2-9 can be set.

4.2.8 When "home/away" in a playoff game, the third map (as well as the fifth in the Grand Final) is played on the server used for the first map, and the fourth map (as well as the sixth in the Grand Final) on the server used for the second map.

Obviously there are more rules that concern playoff games (and the competition in general), but I hope you're already aware of them, as they have been in the rule sheet for a very long time now. :)

Now, go kill eachother.

New Demo Website2012-10-01 21:37 | claire
In case you haven’t heard yet, we’re using a different demo site this season:

http://demos.q2players.org

There are two main reasons for this: to keep demosquad nice and tidy and to make life easier for everyone involved.

How it works: Play your matches and report the wins/losses. When an admin enters the data on the q2scene page for the match they’ll import the data to the demo site too. At that point you’ll receive an email containing a URL that links to a page to upload the demos. The page is unique to you and your match and will allow you to upload demos for all the maps on a single form. No data to enter; just pick the 2-3 files and hit the upload button.

This site was written from scratch to match our needs and on a rather rushed timeline, so please be patient while we put the finishing touches on it. I’m sure some bugs will creep up but we’ll fix them as soon as we can.
