EDL #11 Launch | 2012-09-04 16:25 | Welkin |

|
It seems there's no break in between EDL seasons, since the division 2 grand final was so horrendously postponed... But nothing wrong with that! Gotta deliver the mightiest (perhaps not mighty, but indeed mightiest!) Quake2 competition left/around on time!
Last season was a bit of an experiment with all the changes to its format and regulations. Some proved to be good and some to be less good. Most of the less good stuff is hopefully being altered and improved for EDL #11 - in one way or another. Especially the length of the season - I can't say this enough!
It's quite difficult to say exactly how long we intend this season to be, as the number of participants (in each division) affects this more than anything else. We're not counting on anywhere near as many sign ups as last year, and we might even regulate some of them in some way, in order to not have as many inactive and absent players listed this time. We'll just have to wait and see, and somewhat play it by ear.
1) Season Time Frame
The sign ups phase has now begun, and the deadline is Wednesday, September 26th, 24.00 CET. Sign up . You have to be logged in to access the page.
When you sign up, please provide us with an active email address. If we don't have one, we can not guarantee that you receive important information from us. We are not liable for the consequences of this. Email us at quake2edl at gmail dot com.
The league starts on October 1st, and the group phase should be done before Christmas. Each round will last for a week (a new round every Monday).
It is not decided if the playoffs will have a single or double elimination layout this season, or even how many players will advance to this stage. It might sound a bit optimistic, but it shouldn't last for more than a month. So basically, by the end of January EDL #11 might be over.
2) Rule Sheet
The rules will be updated. Some of them will be open for discussion in public, and all kinds of suggestions will be welcome. A first draft of the rule sheet will be disclosed in a soon-to-be-created forum thread. Stay tuned!
The final version of the rule sheet will hopefully be published no later than September 23rd, giving you three days to decide if you wish to partake in the gibb after having been informed about how the league will be policed.
Update includes: - the means to force selected players to make cam recordings of their games (ŕ la David in the EDL #10 grand final) - lower warnings limit due to the season being shorter - new website for uploading demos, hopefully making it a lot less time consuming and difficult for both players and admins
Another reminder about the official EDL time zone, and how to make sure your Q2scene website tells you the right time! Read about it .
3) Map Pool Vote
Like last season we've decided to allow a vote for the maps included in the map pool. The vote takes place here:
Unlike last year, only participants' votes will count.
Deadline for voting is Sunday, September 23rd, 24.00 CET. That means you'll get another three days to decide whether or not you wish to sign up after knowing the maps.
4) Admins
norman was asked to repeat his duties this season, but had to turn us down. I believe the reason was that he had too much going for him in the so called real life. He will be missed. The vacancy has now been filled by Captain America, aka claire. Welcome!
Ceba and IsBjorn will continue admining, for which I'm eternally grateful. Couldn't ask for better people to work with! I myself will try and take a step back, rather supervising the league than actively admining it. We'll see how that goes. Either way I'll always be available on , and informed about the ongoings by the other guys.
We're striving to decrease the admins' work load this season (as always). This might result in fewer email/IRC reminders and less hand-holding. The players are expected to show a greater sense of responsibility (also as always).
The seeding will be done by the four of us. When/if necessary, other people may be consulted. The seeding results may be announced as late as Monday morning, October 1st. Expect 3-4 divisions - divisions more fair than last time.
5) Prizes
Yes, EDL #11 will have prizes. Most probably in the shape of money, though less than last season. Prizes will hopefully be announced sometime between the 23rd and 26th of September.
Guess that's about it for now... |

Division 1 Grand Final | 2012-06-13 19:25 | Welkin |

|
Seems like we've almost reached the end of season 10. There are a few games left, but tonight marks the completion of division 1.
David has come through the winners bracket and group stage undefeated, while PURRI had to struggle a little bit more, perhaps especially in his last game, the losers bracket final versus IsBjorn. It was a close call but PURRI came out on top, throwing the esteemed bronze medal in IsBjorn's face.
The game will take place tonight (Thursday, June 14), 21.00 CET.

Shoutcast by Jehar and myself.
Be there or be square, as all the hip people say. |

EDL High-Lights #3 | 2012-06-12 08:30 | Welkin |

Here's an observer's report from our African fellow, sofiene:
"its time for an another EDL High-lights,alot of stuff happened since the last one,Groupe stage ended long time ago and the play-offs have started, let's see what happened in the play-offs of each of the 4 divisions ! :
Division 4 :
great stuff happened in this division with alot of surprises, APKIS had the highest score in the groupe stage with 61 points, everyone thought that he will win this division, during the play-offs,he was sent down to the loosers brackets where he faced sofiene who made a surprise by beating pr0to during the groupe stage,APKIS won the match by 3-1 and went for a killing spree vs jordan and Dean but his glory days ended when he faced the American Fader ( AKA Near>),this player showed us some good matches where he beated Hi7man and some other good players and when stright to the grand finals where he had to face the Russian power detina and he did it, he played with his hated defencive style vs a mind-player and won by a score of 4 - 2.
Division 4 Grand Final :
Faderjok0 detina
Division 3 :
like Div4,there were some surprises in this division, with michaq beating the Legend Odium ,kinex loosing vs Duco in the loosers bracket and adrenal1ne almost reaching the grand finals with nice moments on high ping,he beated michaq on the winners bracket but the polish player made his revenge in the loosers bracket to reach the grand finals where he will face the EDL admin welkin who reached the finals with not much problems by beating padonkas and adrenal1ne.
Division 3 Grand Final :
welkin VS michaq
Division 2 :
this division have a small play-offs table since it is composed by only 1 groupe ( not like div 4 & 3 who had 2 groupes and the best in both groupes goes to a double elimination play-offs ) [WIZARD]slippi won vs irvin, Alexj and NumaveZI and reached the grand finals,in the loosers bracket,we can find [RAGE]AID who beated irvin and [sYnth]warrior ( we all thank warrior for continuing to play Quake 2 after all these years and we hope to see him in the future tournaments and why not revive the legendry [sYnth],causescooby still want to play ) let's not forget st!gmata who stopped his country mate AID and arrived to the loosers final where he have to face NumaveZI,will he get arrested by the cop or is the russian power so strong that even a cop cant do anything ? we will find out soon.
Division 2 Grand Final :
slippi VS ( NumaveZI or st!gmata )
Division 1 :
small play-offs for this division, same as division 2 not much surprises in this division,PURRI and David owned it and went to the grand finals, also,The Quake 2 Classico between PURRI and Damiah was played and the swedish player won after some thrilling games, some good players showed us what they got like isbjorn who almost beated his country mate in the loosers bracket.
Teh Classico :
PURRI Damiah
Division 1 Grand Final:
PURRI VS David (Sheduled for Thursday, 21:15CET)
this will probably be the last High-lights in this season (next post will be the EDL #10 results and prize money, obviously),i couldnt do some High-lights early cause my pc died :( so i had to go to my uncle's house to post this news.

Start of Playoffs | 2012-05-04 21:52 | Welkin |

[DO NOT FORGET TO READ , FURTHER DOWN ON THE WEBSITE! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR PLAYERS!]
After a seemingly neverending 7 month group stage, I'm glad to finally be able to announce the playoffs!
The season has had its ups and downs, and we've come through alot of hardship. Many lessons have been learned along the way - all of which will help us improve the EDL for next season.
As I see it, one of the several reasons (perhaps the main one) for this season having had alot of dropouts and kickouts, is the length of it. It's clear that 8 month long leagues do not work around here. Players generally don't commit to Q2 activity for periods that long, and that's why we've had so many people who were active for a while and then disappeared, and eventually got kicked out due to too many warnings.
With this in mind, the EDL crew has decided to go easy on some selected players. We did not wish to see the EDL playoffs in the same condition as the Edge League ended up in, and therefor we have allowed a number of playoff qualified players (who has too many warnings) to continue with the competition. However, with one limitation. These players are not able to win any prizes, instead the prize money "won" by any such player, will be forfeited into upcoming seasons' prize funds.
The selection was based on these qualifications: 1) Recent activity 2) Interest and effort to correct one's warnings record 3) Amount and nature of warnings
All admins have agreed on the selections.
Wish you the best of luck in your games (all except Sonic! ;p). |
