The aimbot battle
The obvious finals: I think everyone knew before the league had even started that those two clans would meet in the final. Wizards were already known for their awesome teamplay and amazing skills. They were less active though this season with players like Provi only playing official matches.
On the other side we had HBQ, strenghtened by one-man-army NaSSaL (and Belgium's very own Gerdt :p). The latter were very active.
Let me tell you beforehadn that both teams displayed massive skills. The games were so fast paced that it was very hard to follow. Most players were owning like there is no tomorrow...
Q2DM1 - THE EDGE - HBQ's MAP
HBQ took the lead right from the start with sLONKEN getting early rail kills at the water and his brother zorre getting the control of the MH. This one was quickly rejoined by NaSSaL. From there, HBQ started to rape Wizards kinda badly. sLONKEN providing rails and rails to his teammates at MH. Gerdt was warming up, he took his time to adapt to the ping and then took place at the Lift.
The Wizards seemed a bit loss until they finally found their way to the railgun. They started to come back and gave slonken a hard time at rail.
But HBQ's teamplay was superior tonight, they didn't let any chance to Wizards to rape them in return, they played very smart and took back the MH thanks to well synchronized attacks. Once in a while, Provi could managed to kill a few HarryBoy's in the MH with his rail. Unfortunately for him, NaSSaL was hammering that place very hard.
When 5 minutes were left, HBQ completely locked the map. Wizards were all trying their best at railgun but they were massively chained down by HBQ.
Nothing much to add, HBQ dominated from the start 'till the end.
Q2DM3 - THE FRAG PIPE - WIZARDS' MAP
I think we were all expecting Provi to show us the usual Rail pwnage on this map. But I think HBQ were well prepared to that scenario...
HBQ got the first Invul but Wizards took the first quad, the game was pretty even for the few first minutes. Provi seemed confident that he would be able to activate the auto-pilot mode at rail... Well he couldn't! Slonken's rail was on par with provi's today and he put up a serious fight there. But he was also helped a lot by his teammates and the quadrunners
Let's talk about the Quad part. The fight there was more intense. Foen Lege and thaigo were battling hard and managed to get a good amount of quad. But then again, NaSSaL was there helped by ZORRE who were tooled up with rails all the time.
HBQ kept increasing their lead until the few last minutes when Wizards got more quads and made a pretty big come-back.
I forgot to mention Gerdt who seemed a lot more confident with the ping on this map and made many important actions for his teams.
Q2DM2 - TOKAY'S TOWER - HBQ'S MAP
(this map report is a mix of distance's report and my own one =))
We supposed it to be tight game, and it honestly met our expectations. Nassal got lucky respawn near quad and made the beggining. He was doing really great tp job all around the map and kept quad efficiently. Wizard, on the other hand took ra what's common scenario on this map. Foen was struggling with nassal around the quad and succeded to get some even though he lacked some support.
The man to watch on this map was definitely sLONKEN who seemed to be flying over everyone here. HBQ and Wizards were sharing the RA-Lift during the whole game (Wizards kept it for longer though). But HBQ's teamplay really shined on this map, they never let thaigo and provi rail them one by one and, instead, gathered at Quad to later screw them with synchronized attacks.
When it was about 7th minutes to the end wizards made nice comeback, massively forcing to the quad area. Mainly thanks to the Foen they managed to get some quads and made it all close again. Then something crushed and HBQ came back to their job.
Conclusion
HBQ won this match thanks to simply insane skills and teamplay. Wizards seemed a bit demoralised right from the start. Thaigo didn't seem to play with a lot of motivation.
Congratulations to both for making it to the finals though and especially to HBQ who proved tonight that they are the current best Quake 2 team in the world (yes yes!).
