Before this game started I had Ukraine favourites to win it, they pretty much dominated the UK when we played them and I couldent see tehm losing this game, I did however have a sneeky suspision that Slovenia were a very good Dm1 team, the server was an easy one to choose as Ukraine asked for Goodfellas and when I mentioned this to Slovenia I got the reply 'perfect', this was a nice change and we managed to get the game started straight away.
The first map we played was Q2dm2, Ukraines home map, this for the first 8 minutes was an extremely close game with Ukraine holding the RA lift but with Slovenia holding Quad (sould in particular doing a nice job on Quad support), his frag difference was at 18:2 and then he died..although Slovenia continued to get some quads this more or less ended their charge. After 10 minutes the score
was 66-48 to Ukraine, each was equiped with some RA and a rail throughout as they picked off the Slovenians from distance and with 5 minutes left Ukraine really put their foot down and moved away from Slovenia taking the map 127 - 74.
The second map I had down as a close game, but this is where SLovenia totally suprised me by dominating, avis doing a nice job in MH and Putka on rail, in truth Slovenia never looked like losing this map as they totally dominated, Ukraine showed glimpses but SLovenia soon put
out any fires by using their knowledge of the map and each others positions very well, this ended up a convincing 116 - 73 win to Slovenia.
The final map and I messed up by letting the team with the highest frag difference (Ukraine) choose the last map, they chose DM6 and although this game was close at the beginning (with Slovenia even winning) it was obvious after 6 - 7 minutes who would win this one, Blaiz doing a very nice job on quad for Ukraine and with Slovenia seemingly not knowing the map very well or where each member should be lost this one quite heavily, the end score was 149 - 65 to Ukraine.
This was a good game and Slovenia really suprised me on Dm1, it showed up both teams strenghts and weeknesses, the favourites came through in the end but who knows what would of happened if the last map would of been picked correctly....on that note I must comend both teams on their sportsmanship, both team remembered its a game and played it i ntaht spirit which made it a pleasure to
admin, Ukraine waiting for Slovenia without complaining or demanding a default and Slovenia for accepting defeat after I messed up the last map when they were well within their writes to ask for a replay of the 3rd map.
