Description
Ladies And Gents we have a new World record, can I have a drum roll please

Dldldldldlldldlalalalalla……….And the longest 2 maps toever be played in a Quake 2(see any game) clan war goes to UK vs CAN weighing in at a hefty 2 hours 20 mins.

Yes while waiting for 30 mins for the Canadian team who so thoughtfully decided to admin other NDML matches when they were due to play one themselves amongst a million other things….(maybe also include the slowest team to ready up in history) this was a very late match indeed….tempers flared and nasty things were said but in the end the game got the go ahead. Going into this match I didn’t have a clue what to expect from the Canadians and as the UK showed in their previous game they are still as erratic as ever, I fully expected this to go to 3 maps, but thank the Lord it didn’t!

The 2 teams took home/away servers as this was pretty much the only option available (Gravgon invaluably pointed out an Icelandic server that wasn’t TDM), UK’s home server was chosen almost instantly as telenet as this seemed to have the least PL for the Canadians. The map choices were vital as I think both teams were expecting a 1-1 draw meaning the 3rd server choice would probably decide the winner so frag difference was all-important.

Q2DM2

Canada’s home map was chosen as DM2 so after an extended warmup(?) we started the game, for the first few minutes blows were traded equally and the UK team must have been a bit worried not only about the score difference but also about what the Canadians would do on their home server. After this early blip though the UK took control with nite doing a good solo job on Quad, Samedi holding the lift with impossible just below railing and chaining anything that moved and Doomeh kind of in a free role by the RL area. The Canadians throughout the game did make a few attempts at the RA lift but were by and large unsuccessful, they then seemed to play the game out by limiting the frag difference in the gamble that they would get a greater one on their home map, on quite a few occasions they gathered up by MH lift. Uk won this map by a healthy 104 frags.

Q2DM3

Rearrange the words 'balls', 'up' and 'total' to get the general twist of this one, after a little bit of discussion we ended up on a server that seemed ok, after 5 minutes though the server had become unplayable for both team and with 5 minutes on the clock gone we stopped the game and headed to irc for another server, at this point the score was 24-11 to the UK who had made a bright start by holding the quad area and flinging a lot of grenades. Determined to prove their lead wasn’t just because of the server they kept the same tactics for the first part of the 2nd server, which was much better for both teams. The quad area changed hands during the first few minutes with UK keeping a slight lead, Canada seemed happy to attack from RG. Once the UK had managed to gain a bit of control over the Quad area they began to pull away from Canada and soon had a 20 frag lead, Samedi doing an excellent job railing on a high ping. This lead was needed however as the Canadians seemed to click towards the end and in the last 3 minutes pulled the score difference to just 1 without drawing level or taking the lead, a very close 2nd server ended 85-84 in favour of UK with a total score of 109 – 95 meaning the UK took the game 2-0.

I was suprised with UK's performance on DM3 as I felt for sure that this game would go to a 3rd map but I guess the map selections have something to do with that, I know Canada will hope to do better in their next games and indeed with a victory over Chili it already seems things are looking up.

And so it came to be at 12.20am UK time the longest clan war in the history of all games came to an end, although sometimes a bit heated it all ended in 'ggs' and everyone left safe in the knowledge that at least for now we had all edged our names into the guiness book of World records for all to see, how proud we are.

Great report Mj, the loved the "extended warmup(?)"

Anyway, looks like a hard game to admin, annoying when teams are using forever to get ready and which causes players to get frustrated etc, cause they have to get up early next morning etc etc.

Nicely done by UK on q2dm3 though, 1 frag win \o/ Better luck to Canada in the next games to come.
