As happy as I was to not doing anything today, Gravgon was in deep need of an admin to admin the game Slovenia vs Germany, so I stepped up to the task. Being an admin is very hard and draining at times, but this game was pretty nice actually. Mostly cause I've never experienced any trouble with either of the teams, the Germans are always very nice and professional (at least that one previous game I adminned them), and the Slovenians are a fairly happy bunch of quakers as well who speaks a language noone really understands. Good thing they do their whining in that unkown language so the rest of us don't need to bother all that much :)) Anyway, what did I have to do infront of the game? Not a whole lot really, was on the server the teams had agreed to play on, but Putka realized it was crap, so he changed it to another. Both servers were in Croatia, so the pings were pretty even. The name of the server was "Awesome q2server", and when reading that name you realize something is bogus. It was a crappy server, as crappy as they come. Me, being the admin, had about 200 ping or so, and everyone knows the ping of the admin is of prime importance. Being the brave admin that I am, I agreed to admin under these horrible conditions. Anyway, the teams had fairly even pings, Slovenia abuot 35-40 and germany about 40-50. And an equal amount of pl, allthough Careem seemed to be having quite some trouble with it. But, it was only careem so noone really cared :P
Ok, the deal with the maps was as followed: Slovenia initially wanted to play q2dm8, but since they missed an especially evil player named Soul, they didn't want to play q2dm8 after all. Soul was replaced by a q2dm1 player named Enzo, who supposedly had a pretty decent connection. He still had some pl though, but by now noone really cared. Anyway, with Enzo on the team, they decided to play q2dm1 instead. Germany already had decided to play q2dm1, so we were gonna have a q2dm1 only game. Boy was I excited!
First map
First off, when adminning the same map twice while being a bit tired it's hard to keep the facts straight. So if something is totally wrong, I just blame it on the 200 ping I had as an admin. Fair and square. So, what did we see first map? We saw Careem in grave trouble in rail area. Not sure if he gave it up after a while, or if Germany just focused quite a bit on the rail. Either way, Slovenia never managed to hold or lock down rail at all, Germany were always around making life hard for poor careem. He blamed it on pl, but we all know he had a bad hairday that day. As always. Anyway, on the other side of the map, Putka camped lift. And I mean camped. The good thing in Germany's eyes was that he spammed so many nades, even hitting teammates, that Germany didn't really need to hold lift at all :P Saw Putka saying "sorrrrrrrrrrrrry" more than once. Well, maybe it was only once in this game, but that's beside the point! Think Slovenia held mega to begin with, Avis and Enzo, with help of careem that was outbattled in rail. But there were no maplockdown, Germany constantly attacked from rail, often with 3 men at once. dIem did a really good job in my eyes, leading the attacks and proving to be a pain in the ass for the Slovenian defenders in mega. Enzo seemed confident in mega-room though, dancing on the boxes while chaining or something similar. And you know a player has played q2dm1 too much when he jumps around on the boxes backwards. Showoff! Anyway, this was how the game started, and was like this for quite some time. Allthough neither of the positions were held for very long at the time, it seemed that Germany had rail the most, and Slo had mega and lift. However near the halfway mark, Germany started to hold the mega better, and score was pretty close, think they were behind with about 10-15 points throughout most of the game. However they lost the mega, but started railing a whole lot all over the map. A few minutes later the Germans were really closing in, think they were within 5 frags or so, when both teams had about 80-90 frags each. But that's when the Slovenians just said: "Enough is enough". Careem got his play together at rail, and started picking up spawnfrags as he should, and with Enzo and Avis doing a great job in mega, they walked away with a win. Quoting avis:
<avis> Daelmun tell how ive saved the day for slo.
<avis> And they should crown me, or shit like that.
<avis> :))
So to sum it up, avis saved the day for slo, and they should shit like that.
Second map
After a lot of whining from careem about pl, the second map started. Watching a game on a server like this is like watching football being played on a slippery football field in rain and wind in 3 degrees celcius. Everything gets a bit harder, everyone gets a bit more aggrivated, and the poor refree is having a hard time thinking about anything else than how much better it is to be a refree in the summer in, lets say, Brazil. Anyway, just stressing again how bad the server was, and that both teams, careem aside, did minimal whining and was really easy to deal with. But as I said to begin with, noone really paid attention to careem, so the game started. This time around careem did a much much better job at rail, and that really paid off. Slovenia immediately had quite good control of the map, allthough they were constantly battling so they never had the map locked down. They just prevented Germany from being in position too often. Putka again, camping the lift and spamming nades (which he claimed not to see due to pl), and he said "sorrrrrrrrry" in this game too. Friendly frags are always a blast! Now, the Germans did roam the map with their rails though, frux and dIem showing off some fancy railing at times, and they just kept the score difference fairly low throughout the game. Allthough, by halftime the scores weren't as close as last time around, I almost expected Slovenia to increase their lead the second half, as they had about 20 frags or so on the Germans by now. However, the Germans refused to give up, and they somehow always seemed to be getting rails. Think they had a rail spawing near the ssg crates or in the ssg corridors. I never saw it, but damn, they must have had something there! Cause they closed in, first they were about 7-10 frags behind, but then Slovenia managed to increase the lead again. And when it was about 1:30 left, the score wasn't really that close, about 15 frags lead or so for the Slovenians, but damn, the Germans ran around really giving the Slovenians a run for the money in this last game. They managed to get as close as a 2 frags or so (damn, keep forgetting the important stuff in these games), but in the last 10 seconds or so, you saw some frag messages where Slovenian players had killed some Germans. It was so god damn close, but no cigar!
PS: I blame the German prefix (kRaut) for making it hard for me to keep track of the German team at times, they just seemed to blend in making the names look the same for a very tired admin :)) I'll try to keep a closer look on them in the future so I can tell them apart.
Anyway, must say Slovenia has been suprising me this far. Not only playing well, but also seeming to be a merry gang of quakers who have a lot of fun (except when having pl). Germany was showing great sportsmanship too, really happy they are still around. Couldn't ask for an easier game to admin. Aside the ping of course :P
