As an old fart who didn't keep in touch with the same for a while, I tried to get myself updated lately by speccing games and following results as close as possible
Team Sweden is, basically, clan play with the addition of zorre who haven't played a single game in EQ2L this season. We can safely assume that tonight's lineup for Sweden will be entirely made of play members starting with purri. It's amazing how that guy manages to get even better at Q2 while playing mainly another game (QL). There must be a "skill conversion" tool" that I'm not aware of. He's gonna be doing rail position on the 2 most likely picks for Sweden: dm1 or dm3. Next to him there should be Pogo and Optimizer doing the "main pos" job on either map. The two of them are a good combo at that kind of position because Pogo is a mean quadrunner and Opti is a railhoe but also because they both adapt very well to messy situations. To complete this lineup, there will be mobius I expect who's one of the best allround player in the scene and keep the teamplay working thanks to his inability to give up his position. ph has been added to the squad a bit late so it might be an indication that one of the 4 mentioned above isn't available tonight.
They're one of the favourite for gold so I expect them to win 2-0 against Russia but they have weak points. They play way too many dm1's and dm3's and if they don't pay attention they could have problems on next1 or another "exotic" map.
Team Russia on the other hand is clan Rage. In a couple of seasons of EQ2L they managed to become a definite div1 clan for sure but they're still not good enough to compete with the top. I don't know them well enough yet to give a meaninful description of them so I will let biah do the talking now:
biah: "Eh Mother Russia... a country of 3! active duel leagues but lacking a proper TDM component. Playground.ru servers would take the second place after polish IPs by being crowded in the evening and yet can't really give a choice of players for a national team. It's just Rage ... and everything else.
All eyes on rage.aid here as he is the most skilled player on both - his clan and national team. "Maximus"k1ru and "ptrip"optimus could make a difference, but their game is unstable, as both are mostly duellers.
This season russian team is powered up by "serenity"[amb] and "twitcher"AlexJ, but [amb] has a quite narrow mappool and AlexJ lives in central Russia where bears walk along the streets and sometimes chew on the internet cables instead of own paw. A huge problem for this team is that they don't have a real rail-whore on the squad wich makes life much harder on all maps except n1 and dm7.
However, worst curse for Russia is their ping. At home they ping 10, everywhere else 60 and it does matter if you play versus 30-40. And finally what about maps? (99%)q2next1 (1%)q2dm1,q2dm3,q2dm6."
