Description
Now, this was the weirdest game. I was initially going to admin Sweden vs Poland, but since Ohyeah hadn't adminned Poland yet we switched games. Of course adminning Sweden and Poland would be nice, but I was so tired already I didn't mind adminning Slovenians and Lithuanians.

Then the waiting began.

I mean, waiting is fun and all, but there is only so much you can do before getting a bit bored. The game was supposed to start at 21:00, but not sure if the timezones were mixed up or just DM had thoroughly planned coming back from a party to show up very drunk, delaying the game a lot. Either way, we waited a lot, and despite a cheerfull gang of Slovenians hanging around in the match channel, there weren't a whole lot for me to do. They typed in their own weird language which I'm not sure anyone aside themselves understand. At times it seemed like the Lithuanians and Slovenians were having conversations, or they just pretended. I hoped the Lithuanians would get their team ready. Well actually, Avis do speak english, but unfortunately only in capitalized letters, but it's good enough with me.

Ok, DM came, and as I said, he was very drunk. The problem with DM is it is very hard to tell the difference, he spams a lot of smileys (;]]]]]] or ;]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]) regardless of his state of mind. For all I knew, he could have just came home from a swim in the Pacific. Not very likely of course, but you get the idea. So, we finally had the two teams ready for the game.

Then the serverpicking began. And I'm not a big fan of finding servers, as I'm especially slow at typing out IPs in the console when being given IPs in q2 chat. The sad thing is that even DM (who was drunk) typed out IPs faster than me. It's something I need to work on if I was to pursue an adminning career. We tested several servers, but the pings were uneven all over, Shellix had a weird routing problem so he suddenly had 500 ping on some servers, while the others had 50. We travelled around the world, q2 style. In the end we ended up in Denmark I think, which was nice enough with me. Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats playing q2 on Danish soil.

I'm always intrested in what maps the teams are going to choose. It's always the highlight of the game in my eyes. I could probably make a living out of only reciving various countries' mapchoices in personal messages over IRC. But these two teams weren't that eager at telling me, so when we finally found a server I waited for quite a while to get the maps. They were of course q2dm1 and q2dm7 for Slovenia and q2dm2 and q2dm3 for Lithuania. Doh.

Oh, before the game started we probably did some more waiting on players to ready up, or connect, or for spectators to leave to make room for players so they could connect and ready up.

Oh, and we also had to restart the map because Careem went observer in the countdown, and the notready didn't work very well. It said the team wasn't ready, but guess the mod insisted on finishing that countdown no matter what stands in its way.

Q2dm1 - Slovenia's choice:

Intrestingly enough I remember the preparation for the match a lot better than the actual games. Q2dm1 is always a map you just wait for one of the teams to lock down and dominate. It's pretty much rail rail rail. I chased padonkas for this map, and I must say he has a nice way of playing (when he did), nice flow and always on the move. Good aim, and I love how it was so easy to see he got a bit (lot?) frustrated with his teammates (read the drunk DM). Because when he died he always stopped up, maybe typing something evil in mm2 or just throwing his headphones into the walls (rehash.usa style). He seemed a bit too unfocused for a while though when the Slovenians took over the map. Cause the game had gone back and forth in waves up 'till that point, Slovenia getting a big lead to begin with, then Lithuania completely dominated them after that, tieing the game and seemed to be having the map locked down. But after that period where Padonkas seemed to be busy doing something, in the middle of the game, the Slovenian's took control, and the game just didn't seem so intresting anymore. Padonkas' teammates always stole stuff from him. On the Slovenian team I mostly noticed Putka. Putka and his damn liftcamping. The best parts of the game were of course when Padonkas cleared the lift out of spite, I just like that attitude. Anyway, the game was over and the Slovenians were happy campers while DM was pretty happy too, but he was drunk so who can blame him.

End score:
147 - 110

Q2dm2 - Lithuania's map

Q2dm2 as a map is exactly like q2dm1, just without the megaroom, without yellow and grey armors, without the fancy trickjumps, without the waterarea, the ssg-hallways and the sewers, but with more water at the bottom, a lot more lifts and ladders, quaddamage, bfg and red armor. So, if q2dm1 was any indication on how this game would end, Slovenia would win this 147-110.

Suprisingly that didn't happen at all.

Anyway, to begin with we probably had to wait for spectators to leave the teams and server so the players who weren't present on the teams or the server could connect so they could join up and ready up etc.

Sorry to say I forgot who I chased this game, but whoever lt player who was positioned a lot on the mega lift: I chased you! Actually think it was DM. He picked up some quads, but died a lot, so it was probably him. Halfway through the game, Shellix timed out at an important time of the game when the teams were sorta tied. It took some time to get the game paused, because Shellix was the captain of the Slo team, and whoever was captain on the Lithuanian team was too busy playing. The Slovenian players were a bit annoyed, but eventually Shellix came back after we got rid of some more spectators (this happened a lot in this game). Getting rid of spectators is a bore, especially since it's usually the nice guys who are the first to leave. And when Shellix came back the Slovenians played 5v4 for half a minute or so, because Sl couldn't go obs while being hurt. In the end he didn't get hurt for a second after respawn, and we all were happy.

Anyway, the game progressed and Lithuania pretty much had this one secured from that point on, much cause they had the RA under control most of the game and Padonkas really made good use of the RA and rail and bfg. Got to say the Slovenians did a great job working on those nades. They had some nice tosses.

The game was weird as there were so many timeouts and waiting. Yeah, think Careem went away as well, and Sl took his place, this time deliberately hurting himself alot (so he couldn't go observer).

Score: 90 - 121

Q2dm7 - Slovenia's choice

Another weird map. I don't remember a whole lot about this, except that Slovenia somehow got a lot of frags without having RA room much. They just camped RL and got a shitload of very lucky frags throughout the map. Enzo dominated q2dm7, and I thought enzo was q2dm1 player only (Putka told me this in another game I adminned for them), but he did quite well here. The Lithuanians had RA a lot, with Padonkas spending time there practicing his weapondrop binds. First dropping cells, then the ssg, then picking up the cells and dropping the hyperblaster while picking up the ssg and dropping shells or something like that. In the end his teammate and himself ended up without any ammo for their respective guns sorta. Think some rockets were dropped somewhere in between as well, just to showoff.

Anyway, it was not Lithuania's map and day. The funny thing was that Careem spent the whole warmup and game spamming the matchchannel that I had to kick spectators so he could join the server (as he had been disconnected in the previous map). I did try, but each time I managed to scare someone away another one showed up. And when I was very much involved with the whole scaring process, the game had already started. Careem didn't take it too hard, he was listening to his team on ventrilo without a microphone. Someone on the Slovenian team certainly knows how to win games: force careem off the server, and keep him away from ventrilo by not letting him have a mike. I found it pretty humourous anyway that the team didn't care to wait for him while he was desperately trying to come back.

The weirdest thing happened when I thought to myself: "hmm, where is Vaga? He did pretty well in the last game I adminned them". And on the server he appears. It was just weird, but in this game, it was just natural.

Think lt gave up somewhere near the end, and the final score became quite loopsided. Just another weird game.

Score: 185 - 85

Q2dm3: Lithuania's map

Yes, it was the same procedure. Again, waiting for players to leave teams and/or connect or readying up. At this point of time I was afraid I would not see the bed till the next morning. But since neither of the teams seemed to mind the waiting too much themselves, I just chilled and watched some tv to catch the news. Then the teams finally got their acts together and the spectators taking up spaces left or got kicked by the two spectator-annihilating teams.

As avis so nicely put it (in caps of course):

[SI]avs: KEAVE SERVER
[SI]avs: KEAVE SERVER

Again, I was pretty tired at this point of time. I watched the game with half an eye asleep, but I chose to follow DM. He always has some nice stuff going on with the rail, especially on this map. Well, he seemed to be a bit inconsistant at times and less focused, but damn, he was drunk so I forgive him. Was fun watching him for sure, he had some nice railstreaks, and ran around like a chicken with his head cut off whenever he got fragged, then somehow he got the quad or the rail and fragged a bit.

To make a long story long: the Slovenian team didn't give the Lithuanians that much problems on this map. Again, whenever someone got fragged by quad or lower areas, DM would frag them once or twice by the rail. He also missed the jump to quad from the moving thingy in the middle once. It's always great to watch. Lavadiving is nice.

This was the first map in which Shellix spammed
([SI]ShelliX): < > SECURED -
in observermode at random times throughout the map.

The map wasn't too exciting near the end, the Lithuanians had it pretty much under control.

Score: 102 - 152

Which wasn't enough to beat the Slovenian team on frags overall, so they got to decide who would start the map elimination. Lithuania eliminated q2dm5 and Slovenia eliminated q2dm8. The map that was left when both teams had eliminated was then q2dm6.

Q2dm6:

Not much to say, enzo dominated bfg. I didn't really pay that much attention to the game, just preparing to hit the bed asap after the game. In the end the map was decided, and the Lithuanian players started leaving, and then the game ended.

So, that's the end of this 5 mappers. Lithuania not playing up to par, DM just wasn't in the best state of mind to perform too good. And the Slovenians have performing well earlier in this season, and was not suprised they put up a good fight against a reduced Lithuanian team. But that's life, another day under other circumstances the game could gone the other way around. But of course we will never know, but that means the Slovenian team is through to the next round in the loserbracket, while Lithuania is out. They have played some good games, and I miss prt in their lineup in this game.
