sovet, I agree with you. I didn't say I don't know any other maps.. I play decent on some other maps and have learned many things I applied into my dm1 skills, and other way around. it's just the way I see q2.. it's like chess, and like chess has only one true chess board, so does q2, and if I had to choose one map to represent that chess board it would always be dm1.
dm1 only tournament was just an idea that could make q2 scene a little bit more interesting because of much bigger competition and players that are capable of surprising us. So IMO it is not true that dm1 only would be a yawn.. I find the truth to be opposite because in standard tourney, before it even begins I bet we could all predict the scores of 90% of the games played.. hows that for a yawn?
Andreas, instead of writing these messages here you could have tried some new map in that time. ;]
I said that dm1 only's skills are impressing, but I never said that those people are unbeatable. They are, simply depends on who has the better day.
Apart from that, those dm1 only can't go beyond dm1 and that's petty. It has nothing to do with the lack of time. If you have enough time to master dm1 to the level of div1 superiority, then you surely have time to become somewhat good at other maps too.
P.S. One thing that makes the difference, is the additional skill you learn. Dm1 is limited to some specific movement and action system. When you expand the borders of possibilites by playing other maps with other systems, you will come to learn a lot new stuff, how this and how that...
king = boring ? or...And it's not that I think...Since I play q2, 99'...People didn't even know that where're some other maps then q2dm1. And it's not about ' beating those dm1 noobs'...maybe that's because they can't play other maps...Playing 10 years the same map isn't funny tho...
I don't think you guys are acting mature about this idea.. Like I said many of us don't play q2 every day because we just can't make it time wise.. We could barely make it to play tournament! And whoever tries to tell me you can learn a map well without playing it at least 10 times with a good dueler is a liar. Skill is skill, and I just think some guys have a lack of it so they run off and learn some crappy map and than call better players than themselves dm1 n00bs just because other guy didn't have a chance to play that same map 50 times also O_o .. . We all know the only reason q2 scene is still alive and breathing is q2dm1.. it always has been.. it's the KING of all fps maps ever 1v1/2v2/3v3/4v4 ffa, tdm, ig.. u name it, and u can play it on dm1.
I just think it deserves much more respect than u guys give it, and players who are good on it. Because if you really wanna see who is better.. you play the map everyone knows and can run backwards with hands down the pants.. and that is dm1..
The reason dm1 is disliked by many in my opinion is because they are just not good enough to beat those dm1 noobs so they bitch and whine and learn more crappy maps so they can win something actually
I agree with Spectator. Those "super players" who own pretty much on dm1 and truly suck on other maps, are, in real fact, dm1 only.
It has nothing to do with their superior skill. It's rather with their petty style. Like we had an outstanding dueler on dm1 4-5 years ago in Estonia, k_v. His tactics and accuracy were supreme on dm1. Everyone were o_O watching his games, but the second you chose another map, he whether disconnected or tried to play as he is something, but always ended up beaten even by a player with a skill below average.
- Edge only tournament would put everyone to sleep..zzzzzzz Go back and ask many of the players from previous EDLs how much they enjoy dm1 duels over others. That's entire essay in itself.
- Both ztns(Rage/Painkiller), aeroq2,match1 and almost ALL of the maps used in EDL are ANCIENT! It's almost impossible NOT to have dueled on one of these maps if you've been competitive at all over the last 9yrs!
- Last point: It doesn't take much time to learn a map. You have to LIKE it though and more importantly, the scale and map item configuration appeals to different players based on their movement and individual style. And timers take care of the armor.
- So it's inaccurately simplistic to state: "it's all about who practiced what map better" and BTW "skilled players" seek out the interesting duel maps which encourage action, split-second decisions, movement finesse...all of which you'll find on many,many NON-DM1 maps.
If you're new to q2, well welcome aboard and explore as many maps as you can, learn movement and have fun.

Also there should be a dm1 only duel tournament. First to win 2 games moves further.. Because in all these maps included it's all about who practiced what map better, and I think there are many skilled players out there who simply don't have time to learn every single map into details so it's unfair to them.
Or maybe limit it to 3 maps only? like dm1 rdm2 ptrip for example? Think about it.. it would bring more players and competition to the tournament. GGS all
