Another QuakeCon has come and gone, we all know the scene is divided with the whole DaHanG over purri, skill or luck? But honestly, it's time to look ahead.
Slasher sat down with Id Software's Executive Producer Marty Stratton to discuss the new future of our beloved Quake Series. Check out this at to see the new direction of the Quake Series.
Since we already know you digg it, show us that you do it .
Happy fragging. :> |

QuakeCon: DaHanG #3, Purri #4 | 2007-08-04 16:58 | daelmun |
| |
| | |
|
Because of horrible coverage of the Quad-Damage event (meaning no live coverage whatsoever, and very few vods being put up), I might as well put up some news here:
Quarter Finals
Toxic[2:1] naymlis
DaHanG [2:1] Lost-Cauze
Fox [2:0] griffin
Purri [2:1] Chance
Semi Finals
Toxic [2:1] DaHanG
Fox [2:1] Purri
Consolation Final
The consolation final turned out to be a battle to decide who the best q2 player at the event was. Most people expected purri to win the q2 map, and gave DaHanG a better chance on the q4-map, but neither of these predictions were correct. On ztn2dm3 DaHanG started out in control, and racked up 8 frags pretty quick, but then purri took control showing his rail and reducing the lead to only a couple frags and then made it a one frag game. DaHanG showing an effective defense managed to take the control back, and in what must be a horrific minute for the Swede, the American racked up 4-5 frags off the spawn to secure the win. DaHanG won ztn2dm3 with 20-7. Purri on the other hand got his revenge and took home the q4-map monsoon 10-7, leaving either qw or q3 to be played for the last map. It ended with quakeworld's dm4 - the bad place, where DaHanG took a convincing win 32-4 to secure the third spot.
(ztn2dm3/dm4) DaHanG [] purri (monsoon)
ztn2dm3 :: Q2 :: [20:7] ::
monsoon :: Q4 :: [7:10]
dm4 :: QW :: [32:4]
Grand Final
(pro-q3dm6/phrantic/monsoon) Toxic [] Fox (aerowalk/q2dm1)
Demos Q2DM1 ::
Sweden dominating the event having all 3 players among the top 4. Congrats to both DaHanG and purri for good showing, and also to naymlis who reached the final 8.
Only reasonably fast updated site I found was . Else some matches are found or to be found on the .

Quake4: Q2 players in Q4 | 2007-07-07 21:11 | daelmun |
| |
| | |
|
Since nothing is really happening in Q2 at the moment, I'll just mention that there were a few Q4 tournaments going on where Q2 players were having a good showing:
Electronic Sports World Cup () Paris :: purri managed to progress through 2 groupstages to reach the play-offs with the final 4 players after beating forever in the key match of the second stage. In the playoffs he faced the tourney favorite av3k on lost 2:0. However, he was guaranteed a top 4 placement as purri was playing defending champion winz for the 3rd spot in the consolation final. Unfortunately he fell victim of winz extreme +back style and even though he had the chance he couldn't steal the win.
Bronze final
(placebo/torment) winz [2:1] purri (phrantic)
Grand final
(monsoon/phrantic) Av3k [2:0] Cooller
::
::
::
World Series of Video Gaming () Dallas :: DaHanG was playing in his second WSVG, and after a surprising 5th placing in the previous event he was looking even stronger this time around beating several North-American players before in the loser-brackets, and was facing Cypher in the game that decided who got to face Toxic in the grand final of the event. So, a top 3 placement was guaranteed. However even though showing good play and taking away one map, he didn't manage to beat the young Belarus player, but placed 3rd overall, a very respectable performance.
Lower bracket final
(monsoon/placebo) Cypher [2:1] DaHanG (torment)
Grand final
(monsoon/phrantic) Toxjq [2:0] Cypher
::
::
Also Sorax played in the ESWC event, but got knocked out in the first group-stage because of number of frags (or something like that), even though he got the same number of points as 2 other players.
::
::
and....
::
::
Congratulations to both purri and DaHanG! Good to see q2 players represent so well in q4.

Floyd: Cast-away | 2007-07-01 16:56 | daelmun |
| |
| | |
|
That was a horrible pun, but the good news is of course that Floyd has finally removed the from his arm (hurt in with a car, in case you haven't read/heard about it). So now he is playing Quake 2 again.
Quad-damage tourney on QuakeCon
Not only is he playing Quake2, but he is also eagerly practicing QuakeWorld, Quake3 and Quake4 for the upcoming , which he plans to attend.
Bad news for the jump-community is that he also has started his job with fine-tuning his jump-cfg and will be chasing the nr1 spot on the !
Of course thanks to Gerdt for the update! |

QuakeCon: Quad Damage-tourney | 2007-06-27 10:14 | daelmun |
| |
| | |
|
This year's lan-party will have a nice little twist on the main 1v1 tourney. Where previous years' events have been focused on a single game (with Q2 being used in 2005, where purri won), this year all 4 Quake games will be used;
:: QuakeWorld
:: Quake 2
:: Quake 3
:: Quake 4
Quoting :
QUAKE Quad-Damage Tournament
This year brings a new twist to QuakeCon's classic 1 vs. 1 competition with the inaugural Quad Damage Tournament. Spanning all four QUAKE games, this year's champion will need to be a master of a variety of weapons, maps, and play-styles - from QUAKEs lightening fast action and dominating rocket launcher, to the more strategic gameplay and precision weapons found in the later QUAKE games. 256 contestants will be divided into 4 man groups with each player battling the others in a set of round-robin 1 vs 1 matches. Two phases of round robin play will reduce the competition down to the top 32 players, who will then battle it out in a single-elimination, best of 3 bracket to determine who is truly the QUAKE Master
More information, including map names, prize money distribution, detailed format and rules, and sign-ups for both tournaments will be available soon at .
